Email att; from K & N.......It will be a regular 4 Ply filter as most of them are. Not a race filter 2 Ply when I spoke with Lisa/R&D,etc. Nothing in the near future planned for a race filter. This should be a good high flow aftermarket filter as K&N is the most widely used quality paper filter out there! RE: Hi Lisa, any work on new air filter for 2008/09 Buell 1125R/CR, progress.þ From: Lisa Watson (lisaw@knfilters.com) Sent: Tue 2/17/09 12:22 PM To: 'Rob Kreiner' (supermotomx@hotmail.com) 1 attachment image001.gif (6.3 KB) Hi Rob, I will need a stock bike (no exhaust or programmer) at this time. From what Ive been told we are not going to do a race spec filter like we did for the Hayabusa. Thank you for all of your help. I have not forgotten about the intake for your Mazda. Im trying to see if we can help you out with that since you have been supplying me with Buell information and bikes. Just waiting for the right time to ask. Me too, I've already replaced my OEM at 12.5k miles. Everything that is an IC engine has a K&N on it at my house. |

Well as you know Lisa is my go to girl at K&N...wow she got back to you b4 me Harlan(Fresno)?..im jealous...LOL...that was the bike i gave them for protoype filter. Hoping for mine soon... Is that an Italian manufacturer(UK distributor) for that air filter? Yes it is...I know BMC out of Italy which is popular overseas and here said no plans for one this year. I will await and see and have my bike dynoed with K&N airfilter, airbox lid off now, and Jardine Pro-tune 3 prototype tuning card, Jardine CF exhaust...I will keep you all posted. Italian air filter SF Sprint filter, its expensive..,92.00 Euros = 117.47 U.S. Dollars!!! WOW!... SHIPPING...30.00 Euros = 38.30 U.S. Dollars. Total Cost =155.77 +-!!!! I think normally K&N's are around 59.95 retail on the firebolts/Buell bikes. May be a bit more because of the big difference in radius bend/sealing. But should be a ton cheaper than the Italian filter.... I let Lisa at K&N know of this..by the pic they think it wont seal as good or the make the radius bend in the airbox(maybe speculation and probably not the right pic of air filter)... Thanks. Lisa from K&N would like to know by a poll if someone can do for me. How many of you 1125R/CR owners ride street only? Track/Race only? Both street and track? In a nutshell how many are going to buy or use the K&N 4 ply regular filter for replacement or service change. Or would you like a 2 ply race filter like some models they make. Thanks for your input and help in feedback to K&N. For now it will be 4 ply but maybe with our feedback and numbers we can get both... aside from the 2 or 4 plys, what are the pro and cons? Is the 2-ply two thin to use for street riding? I will probably buy the 4-ply unless the 2-ply filters as good as the 4-ply, which I doubt. |

Let me rephrase then, will my fingers smell after using the 2-ply? If so, I'll go with the 4-ply. I like to be protected |

Which one will be backed up/supported and/or warrantied by BMC if an engine failure (do to foreign intake debris) were to be a possible cause related to the chosen filter media design? Sorry if I sound a little confused but after 100's of K&N filter installs/applications, I've never heard of anyone (publicly questioning) being involved in developing said product other than said engineer's themselves. No ILL at all meant by this post, only honest questions relevant to the thread. FWIW, with the amount of debris that accumulates within the stock air box enclosure, I'd lean towards the obvious, whether racing or on the street. |

Heck, I didn't even know they made two different types (2 vs 4 ply). Do both offer improved flow over stock? How many ply is the stock filter comparable to? I suppose I'd also like to know the answers to questions being asked (warrantied by BMC, pros/cons, etc.). Until those answers are supplied, I'd guess a 4-ply would be my choice. Gotta play it safe. |

Ok 4 Ply is what they are making/stock OEM that has better airflow..and I cannot foresee BMC warranty problems as HD use to use K&N OEM airfilters(some models still do) and are offered in screamin eagle/aftermarket catalogs and K&N for Buell/aftermarket in shops. Most get a K&N for there Buell XB Lightnings/Firebolts and other models all the time when new or over time. Lisa is just trying to find out who races, street rides or does both to warrant a race model(maybe it would be a 2ply or more, i dont know)I believe. Thanks for your guys suggestions and feedback as I know everyone besides myself are awaiting this filter. By the way did anyone on badweb buy that expensive made in Italy SF Sprint Filter for the 1125R. I noticed someone in Germany bought one online with ebay. If anyone has one or is getting one let me know..K&N or me would like to find out and compare fit/flow...I would too. Rob Buell Specialist (Message edited by racerxusa on February 27, 2009) |

Rob, Thanks for working with K&N to get this product to the market ASAP. I'm planning to get one as soon as I can. I've got K&Ns on most of my toys and never had a problem. Sometimes the manufacturers need a little encouragement to get your need higher up on the development list. I had a bit of a similar circumstance with Corbin to get a seat for my XB12Ss back in '07. |

Thanks Jerseyguy, Steve, appreciate it from another Jersey guy like myself. I'm on the left coast now and miss it back east. I will keep everybody informed as much as I can when new products/testing/prototype are coming out for Buell! The more we call, email and ask for new product/improvement for the Buell line including contacting Buell/HD themselves it helps no matter how long it might take. I also contact HD/Buell in regard to issues such as quality, parts missing, improvements, on and on. If you have a concern about any Buell please let me know and I will forward by phone, email or your email to them also. The more the better. Contact me by phone 951 785-0100 wed-sunday 10-7PM PST or by the email on my profile. Thanks again as I love these Bikes especially the 1125R/CR! 18 years in the making finally....Buy American...(as close as it gets) Rob Kreiner Buell Specialist Skip Fordyce HD/Buell 7688 Indiana Ave Riverside, CA 92504 951 785-0100 Ext 226 |
