I was told by my service advisor to check often the oil level on my bike because there has been some known problems with oil loss. I asked if it was burning it or leaking and he told me that it was the breather that was the culprit. He said that the have replaced some engines because of that and that the solution was to send the heads to get the ports increased in size so it could "breath" better. WTF??? Has anybody heard of anything like it? Or this guy is confused? |

Sounds like he was describing the XB motor |

If she's leaking oil, you should be able to see evidence on the garage floor? If she's burning it, you should be able to see blue smoke evidence? Does your 11 use oil and/or require you to add? Otherwise, I'd ask for further details from your local service tech. |

Didn't find anything about a known problem fitting that description in either the service bulletins or in the tech tips. Your guess is as good as mine. It does how ever warn that over filling the oil should be avoided as it can cause problems. (like every bike manual doesn't say that) |

I know. I never heard of anything like that before here at Badweb. So by what Boltrider says, is that a common problem on the XB motors? |

I kind of worried because a while ago the same tech told me that my engine was making a weird noise. Like a metallic sound. So I left it there so they could check it up. Next day he told me that they called BMC to check and they said it was normal. |

Well, I know this engine is mechanically noisy like the XB's. |

I just got my 1125r(white), I did the 20 mile ring seat and changed the oil and filter, and yes I drained both sides. I added three full quarts of oil. The question is why the oil barely shows on the dip-stick. I ran the engine to circulate the oil, but didn't get it hot. |

Doctorneon, next oil change clean and inspect the screen. I found small metal shavings, don't freak if you find some just clean and replace. The screen seems to do its job. Scott |

Luisemilio25r, the XB's use a little bit of oil. There's some blowby that gets routed through the breather lines and back up and into the air cleaner. A little bit of blowby is normal on the air cooled Buells. I'm with everyone else on the 1125. I haven't seen/heard of anyone complaining of oil use on these bikes. Either that guy doesn't have a clue, or he gets a kickback from whoever is porting the heads. (Message edited by boltrider on February 26, 2009) |

Actually is a service advisor I guess that's what it's called. The actual person that works on the bike. that I don't know. So hopefully your bike is in good hands Tijuanajack. Aside those commentaries, they have always taken good care of my bike. The have performed recalls, replacements, and repairs without any problem or me having to go back. So the techs are good, the service advisor... well I don't know. |

When I brought my 1125R in for the trans. orfice recall deal and went to pick it up it was low on oil so I went back in before leaving and politely complained. The assistant service manager asked if it was the engine or the primary. WTF? I again politely explained and they topped it off. Probably lost a little in removing the clutch housing and never checked afterwards. I have had to "enlighten" and help educate my dealers service dept. with the manual, which they now have but I doubt read much, and info from BadWeb. They were completely HD oriented but are coming around slowly with only a few 1125's sold. They are fairly open to my questions, and are learning as they go. So thats OK. Politeness and positive attitudes are sometimes hard to acquire with the older HD shops but we have maintained a good relationship and I'm fairly satisfied, for now. 12000 mile service will be another story and I'm considering doing it myself. The reason I'm writing this account Luis is your saying the service tech told you about the "breather problem", yet another thing common with the tuber/XB models. I'm not aware of any ongoing problem with oil loss on our 1125's. Hard for some shops to transition from the old engines to the Rotax. Bob |

Doctorneon: I have the same issues with the oil level check. The oil won't really show on the dipstick with the engine cold (stored upright, so I know that the oil has time to settle). Then with the engine fully warmed up (per the procedure in the owner's manual) the oil is near the upper part of the acceptable range. |

Bob is right about the breather thing. Many Harley engines have carryover issues with their breather system design. Some will even coat the side of the bike and rider .on long high speed rides. |
