So Just got her back from the 12K service. While she was there I had them install the ceramic coated headers and muffler. Also had the frame insulation kit installed and the latest recall done (fuel vent line, side stand spring and dips stick).

I think she looks much better:

Before:

After:

Very nice improvement! Let us know if you notice any cooler temps with the coating.

I've been waiting to see someone do the JetHot in black, since I think that would be cat's ass.

Nice Spectrum

I don't care what anyone says, that stock exhaust looks better than anything else. It fills in nice and flows with the bike.

Was the ceramic coated headers and muffler and frame insulation kit part of a recall or something you paid for?

That does look nice. Did you just buy a new muffler and send it off the Jet Coat?

I bought the muffler from another badweber and had it coated locally. The headers came from American Sport Bike.

I paid extra to have them installed during the 12K service. This saved me a lot of money since the dealer worked with me due to already paying to have the engine rotated with the 12K service.

The 12K service was $350 plus parts. The charged me and additional 2 hours of labor for removing and installing the headers and insulation kit.

Spectrum,

At the 12K service were the valves in or out of spec?

I don't think I have heard of anyone yet with valves out of spec at 12K. (Just my observance of the Badweb, though...)

Pretty, VERY pretty! I liked that powder coated muffler from the start.

All you need now is a dark smoke DB windshield ;+}

Great job. I sorta wish I did something during my 12.4K service, but service was not planned really (done during other warranty work.) I might go the polishing route.

My valves were perfect during the check. Tech says to not be surprised if the valve adj. interval goes up significantly. He said the same thing happened on the Vrod.

Front valves had to be reshimed, the rear was in spec.

That looks really good. Can you describe the ceramic coating process? Was it an expensive job?

Somebody with more technical knowledge than I maybe better to describe how it's done. Basically it's very similar to powder coating except it uses materials that are Ceramic which are more heat resistant and insulative.

Here's a site with basic process:
http://www.amr-coatings.com/powdercoating-process. html

As for cost the muffler was $180 and just coated on the outside. The headers were $199 coated inside and out. American Sport Bike offers a core exchange on headers.

Check with Al at American Sport Bike. They have an exchange process so you don't have to worry about finding a used header (which might be a little hard to come by).

I do have their ceramic coated heat shield that seems to help a lot.

The exhaust looks like a glossy version of the original whereas the headers are silver - I assume the ceramic coating is coloured?

I like it a lot, I'll do some research in the UK.

How does the coating deal with being battered by stones and the like? Is it a durable finish?

Ceramic and powder coating are definitely more durable than painted surfaces. They will chip but are less prone to chipping than paint. Where they really shine is corrosion resistance.

See the corrosion resistance chart on this web page.

Bryan, it looks awesome! It looks like they also coated the header (Torco?) clamps, but I guess you just polished them up?

Anybody know how much a set of stock pipes would run? I can't afford the downtime to have mine sent off, as the CR is my primary transportation. I might have that done at the 12k svc, but I would have to have the parts lined up and ready to go.

I'll check w/ the dealer next time I'm in there.

That really does look good, particularly with the black heat shield. Subtle, and elegant.

See if Al at American Sport Bike has ones coated for the '09s yet. You just pay the core fee and send him your pipes after you swap them.
