One thing I would to to the current bikes RIGHT NOW is incorporate frame slider mounts like the Buell race bikes have: Squidly? Yes, but it gives people peace of mind and makes the chances of having to replace your frame less likely if things go wrong. |

Those frame sliders still won't stop a bent bar from putting a ding in the tank. I like the knee puck idea better. That Fischer is butt ugly! Good lord, don't let that be it! |

Jose... Thanks for the positive comment. I was concerned whether I had crossed the line with the posting. Bottom line is I would like to see Buell do well. |

I really wanted to stay away, but i just cant, so i will start by saying i am sorry and work from there, Buell missed the boat, no they didnt, they just dont want to be on that boat, they are not interested in water cooling(as of my last conversation) and will continue to do what they feel is best and good for them, so deal with it and move on, no sence in bashing a company that is producing a bike they want to build. As far as the cycle world article on the S3, Jose i read it, and if you did you know they felt something was wrong with the real end(isolators) they decided to keep on riding, what the hell its not there bike, and then destroyed it, bitched about it but never mentioned how they fucked up(they did however mention it later in a side bar) Guess what it was there fault, i have enuff bikes, and still have my buell, i will not be happy with a bike that goes bad after short periods or blows up odd things, (like my stator) but i will fix them when they go bad and not keep riding, but of course i have a 138000 mile S-10, and have never owned a car that was parrted with with sub 100000 miles Now on to you Court, i hope your right about the dealer thing, i still after 6 months and a couple of visits to the dealer have no spyder for my S3, yes it is paid for, yes it is in there computer, who knows whos fault it is, but do you think i want another buell after this pain, i know its nots Erics fault, i even know its not BUells fault, but if i can not get a part for my bike, do i really want another???? Yes i know march down and get my money back blah blah blah, not the point, if you want Buell to get better and not just Survive, well these are the things that need to be fixed(and as you have said, i hope they are being fixed) Now this prototype, i know its hard for some one to come out with a bike, look at henderson, look at indian, but here is where i think this company has a leg up, the frame is done and has been done(it looks to be a VR1000 frame), the engine is done, bodywork should be no big deal, i think it is closer than anyone expects, And for anyone worried about rules and regs, i think your way off, it will not be an issue until it becomes a world bike or produces X amount,(X being what ever the feds decide) look and CNC or Bourget, dont see them slowing down for regs, thats because its called special production but i live in Chicago, and i hope it works, So for anyone interested, give me the Fischer adress, or phone number, and i will go talk to the guy, as him some questions, what ever you want, all i need is a contact number, hell i live downtown, so he cant be more than 5 miles in any direction, then we can see what he is realy about let me know Roger |

Almost forgot, for Dyna, KR(kenny roberts or KING KENNY) has been racing HIS bike at a world level for about 5 years, he started with the theory the a 400 cc 2 stroke would be faster than a 500, due to weight issues and faster corner speeds(the 250's were getting close to the 500's at the time so i figured maybe he was on to something) it didnt work out as well as he hoped ans now he is onto the 2nd evolution of his bike the V5 4 stroke, he is backed by a Malyasian(sp??) car company proton, who is also backing foggys efforts at the world level, look for the light blue bikes on speed or in RRW, |

Speaking of "Huevos"... I wonder why Honda chose not to show the ST1300 at the Long Beach MC show today? I know they are undergoing surgery in the warehouse with the existing production and revamping the product at the factory level, but who would have figured they would play Ostrich. Oh well, that was from my friends on the Left Coast that are Honda and BMW lovers and connoiseurs of all brands when it comes time for bench racing and tech talks. Incidentally, they commented that the Lighting was tiny and cute. Duh...I gotta think think about that one. LOL |

OOPS...I stand corrected. The ST1300 was at the Wrong Beach Show and my live from the show floor sources are hanging their heads in shame. Especially since the majority are ST1100 owners and are looking to trade up. Many thanks to Sparky for the correction. Oh well, it made for an interesting afternoon in this God Forsaken Winter Wonderland they call Wisconsin. |

I shall conclude this rediculously titled discussion with two favorites quotes...... "The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work." - Emile Zola (1840-1902) "Talent does what it can; genius does what it must." - Edward George Bulwer-Lytton (1803-1873) Court |

By the way.....as some of you know I've been a bit obsessed with reading. At the risk of sounding silly, I'll give a a tidbit about where I got one of the above quotes. The fellow I quoted above, Edward George Bulwer-Lytton, was an essayist and poet with one of the singulary mosted quoted (albeit without due credit) lines in literary history. From his 1830 novel Paul Clifford, which he bagan "It was a dark and stormy night". And now you know.......the rest of the story. Court |

Buell missed my boat but I'm hoping one day they will get it back. Court, ever read William Carlos Williams? The Decent Beckons as the assent beckoned Memory is a kind of accomplishment a sort of renewal even an initiation, since the spaces it opens are new places inhabited by hordes heretofore unrealized, of new kinds— since their movements are towards new objectives (even thought formerly they were abandoned) No defeat is made up entirely of defeat—since The world it opens is always a place formerly unsuspected. A world lost, a world unsuspected beckons to new places and no whiteness(lost) is so white as the memory of whiteness. ---William Carlos Williams. |

And therein too lies the paradox coupled with irrudition. (That's probably the wrong word and spelling to use, but I'll look it up later, and it sounds good, so I'll go with it for now. In the mean time a major/primary customer is screaming for something, I don't have the input I need to give them the output they're demanding, and we are in fact waiting on their staff to give us to go-ahead to officially give them what they are demanding -- "give it up now" "then give us the approval" "not my responsibility just give us the data" "can't do that without the approval" "we need it today, actually last Friday" "then give us the approval" "can't" "can't either then" "give us the data now!" "you'll just reject it as is without your prior approval" "I don't care, we just have to check off the box that says we received it on time, we'll give you the approval later" "Okay, I'll give you exactly what you want, and will wait for your rejection to arrive prior to your go-ahead" ) Yeah, it's one of those mondays. |

Mikej; I know, all us here on the badweb need our bikes, like we need our arms and legs. The thing is we don't NEED our arms and legs, do we? I mean life would go on....anyway, what I meant was, choosing which bike to buy is an emotional decision, not a rational one. I mean, they could offer me a better deal on the blue one, and it wouldn't matter, 'cause I WANT the white one. Period. How rational is that? |

As rational as you want it to be. Besides, without arms and legs it gets rather difficult to ride a bike. |

Since there has been quite a bit of talk about how poorly Buell is doing, I decided to look at some numbers. I went through the records from 1997 and averaged the change in third quarter to fourth quarter shipments. I then projected fourth quarter shipments based on that average and added it to the numbers through third quarter of this year. I calculated the following: 1997 - 4415 1998 - 6334 1999 - 7767 2000 - 10189 2001 - 9925 2002 - (11676) projected This represents a 17.6% increase in a change-over year with very limited 1st and 2nd quarter shipments. Unless the real numbers are drastically lower than my projection, I don't see how anyone can claim that Buell isn't doing well. |

Is that actual sales to paying customers or simply shipments to dealers? Just asking because who cares how many bikes Buell ships if all they do is sit on some uninterested dealers floor? |

Your saying Buell will sell 11676 Firebolts? More than all the other models in all the years before. If thats true I am really shocked. |

No, Firebolts, Blasts, and a smidge of Lightnings, I'd bet. Frankly, I see more Blasts on the road than all the other Buells combined. -Geof |

Sorry, I was in transit. Those numbers include all bikes, they are shipments not sales and it is only a projection - still - the numbers show strength not weakness. If someone else would like to perform their own projection based on other data, I would be interested to see. Until someone can produce negative data rather than speculation based on a friend's, uncle's neighbor's comments, or a personal dislike of the aluminum frames, I am being optimistic. Time will tell. |

Elvis, The reason I didn't buy a Bolt wasn't the Frame or bike design, I was simply done with the Sportster based engine. If the bolt had something other as the power plant, I would have one in the garage now. I’m considering the new R-6 for a track bike. If the Bolt had a RC-51 type of Vtwin, I would buy it instead. So in about 3 or 4 years I will see where they go with the power plant. Back to the topic of a good entry-level bike: I know many will disagree with me on this, but I like the Ninja 250. My girl friend bought a Sportster 883 and simply could not ride it. She dumped it every time she rode it. She then bought a Ninja 250 and totally loves it. Has no problems at all riding it. |
