I posted this over in the racing section, but I think more people hang out it here, so I thought it was worth a mention. Shawn Higbee is apparently making a grass-roots privateer effort in the AMA in 2009 after it seems RMR couldn't get enough sponsorship support. He is detailing his efforts in his blog on his web-site and I find it FASCINATING and I think some of you will be interested as well. I'm sure he could use all the support he could get and there are a lot of people on this board who will be interested in his efforts, so check it out when you get a chance: http://www.higbee-racing.com/ http://shawnhigbee.wordpress.com/ |

GO Shawn!, GO Privateers! GO Buell! Too bad one particular sponsorship did not go thru. Currently I cant go in to details. If yall know my involvement in AMA racing, you could figure out what I am talking about and which sponsor was sooooo close to sponsoring a Buell team. Would have been awesome.

IMHO, An American bike w/ American Rider w/ American sponsor. It would have been epic. (Message edited by barker on February 18, 2009) |

I think sponsors should realize there's a difference between Suzuki riders and Buell riders. There are so many Suzukis out there racing at so many levels with so many sponsors everything gets blurred together. And Suzuki owners, for the most part, are just people who bought a motorcycle. They're not part of a community. If a sponsor puts their name on a Buell, they'll get noticed. |

Just updated with a very cool Willow Springs write-up. Apparently he had some troubles and couldn't get any practice laps, so did the open class to get a few laps in before the races he was really concentrating on. I'm not quite sure, but it also looks like he's using the carbon-fiber full fairing that's been going around IMS. http://shawnhigbee.wordpress.com/ |

Ya gotta love it . . . not only is he one heck of a nice guy, he's an amazing rider. . .
quote:The only thing I could do was enter the Open Superbike to use as a practice session. So here I found myself up against liter bikes on a stock Buell1125R, 4 month old used slicks and all. I knew it would be wise to hang back and let the field go off the line, but the Buell gets incredible launches and I wanted to show those Gixxers some 1125R taillight going into turn one. And yes the 1125R delivered just as expected and pulled me from the 3rd row start up to about 4th place before turn one.

Shawn WAS running the new Buell Racing bodywork and because it was so cool out there, there's no statement can be made about the cooling as compared to the FlexiGlas fairings... but the bike LOOKED good! He didn't have time Saturday for practice so he started "cold" on Sunday... but look at the results. The F1 race was won by Jeff Tigert - you have to realize that he's "the Shawn Higbee" of HRC... yes, Tigert is as close as you can be to a works rider. That race has a $10K purse in addition to Buell money... and Shawn is SIILL on a virtually stock motor (only race pipe and tuning) |
