I have a White Brothers muffler that needs a repacking, anyone know what's the best material for repacking and where to get it? |

Go in your attic and get the pink stuff, its fiberglass.. but watch out, our attic has this white fluffy cotton like substance that is not fiberglass, that stuff will not work ans will catch fire. Or go to home depot (lol how many times do I have to reccomment home depot, lol) and but a small load of some fiberglass insulation.. the hard part might be the repacking.. im not sure how to repack your muffler.. I can tell you about my motorcross exhaust. After removed from the bike, there where three screws that held the muffler together.. your bike might be an easy removal of screws ~OR~ it may have rivets that you have to drill out, and then put back in some new ones (that you can get from home depot, lol).. back to subject: repacking, dirtbike.. once I removed the screws ther were two part, the stick and the aluminum casing.. remove the old fiberglass becuase its old and gunky and filled with liquid carbon.. then try tocut your fiber glass to the length of the stick, then tightly wrap the fiberglass around the stick.. just enough so that it will fit back in the casing real snug.. if the fiberglass is unwraping itself as you are trying to put it back in the casing, just place a few strips of tape to hold it together (black electrical tape works well) (another home depot item).. then on either which way its bolted together, either rivet or screw it down.... ORI'd stick to repacking Take it all out and give the bike a louder growl (Message edited by ochoa0042 on February 17, 2009) |

Any shop that sells dirt bikes oughta have the packing. I don't know that there really is one that is better/lasts longer/is quieter than any other. I just buy the cheap stuff for my 2-smokes and repack them every other year. |

I repacked my Vance & Hines with a packing kit from the local import dealer. I think it cost $12.00 and it took about an hour to do. It was actually no quieter after I repacked it. In fact, I think it got a little louder and sharper sounding. I bet it would have been quieter if I had used less material. Either way, it cured the rattling sound that was coming from the baffle tube that was no longer supported by the loose old packing. |

I took my Vance and Hines apart and purchased some fiberglass pipe wrap from your competitor, Lowe's. I think it was 3 or 4" width. Wrapped it around to desired thickness tied the loose end with a string slid it in and viola. |

Psssssst.......buy a force......they dont have packing.....lol but liek others have said, take the muffler apart, then dtuff insulation inside, any atv or offroad dealer will have bags of it hanging on the wall, make sure you get 4 stroek packing, as 2 stroke packing material is slightly different. then just stuff it in and put it back together, be carefull not to tightly wrap the perferrated core, as this could actually make the bike louder by not letting the exhaust through the holes. |

No need, I found a new muffler bearing kit for it on EBay. The seller said it had all the needed parts. |
