Got an amazing deal... $1900, 2005 GSXR-600 with 25k miles and in perfect shape (except for the lack of maintenance)!!!!! Got some help from a friend this wkd: talking about the lack of maintenance from the previous owner: yeah.............. we did not find anything major, so that was a relief... Quite a lot of maintenance needs to be done though... fork oil change... motor oil change + filter... replace all coolant hoses... rebuild front brake + master cylinder... swap the lines with braided ones... valve adjustment... new air filter... I may get track plastics (the OEM look so good still I want to save them)... I need to fix an electrical issue with the turn signals (even though I don't really need them on a track bike, I still want it working in case I need it later)... replace the fuel line... new spark plugs... reaplce coolant liquid with water wetter... get frame sliders... get new radiator cap... lub all levers... check all critical bolts... and more!!! I have a month until my March track day |

Where/When in March? Trackexperience at Willow? Might see you there. Dang but that's a great deal on the bike. I'd consider new seals on the forks too - not just oil. Unless they've improved their quality, I'd tend to stay away from Hot Bodies. What I've seen has been heavy, brittle. Don't see a "premium" Hot Bodies option so I'd just stay away. EVERYBODY sells gixxer bodywork. Post up on http://www.gixxer.com for some pretty good info. |

Thanks Gunut75! I just finished overhauling my garage, and I am very proud of it Ochoa0042: I already have a long list of things do buy/do (see below), so I am good for now thanks Slaughter: Willowsprings with Trackdaz... http://trackdaz.com/ti/trackdaz/20090313b.html?id= 7U235dNm Hopefully I will get the gixxer ready on time... if not I`ll be on the Buell again... About the oil seals for the forks, they were on my list but I was told I don't need them to just change the oil... I have my doubts though, so I am going to double check thanks! I already have a thread on gixxer.com hehe Ustorque: interesting, I`ll ask on the gixxer forum... thanks. The list:

Cool - Trackdaz - that'll be the official practice day for the WSMC race weekend. Might see you there if I can break away that day (the day job gets in the way sometimes!) |

Trying to work it to get out. You do know that TrackDaz offers New Racer School - you can get your WSMC license through them. |

I did not know... WSMC = Willow Spring Moto Club? Do you recommend it? What's involved? |

Willow Springs Motorcycle Club - they run all the races at Willow for motorcycles. Track Daz does their New Racer School (all TrackDaz staff are racers) WSMC unofficial BBS (good for asking loads of questions) UNOFFICIAL BBS (click) WSMC OFFICIAL BBS is: OFFICIAL BBS (click) The official BBS has just started up this year and it's only now starting to get active. Post up as a newbie on either - you won't get quite the heavy level of BS that you get on a sportbike board (of course since I race a Buell, I get LOADS of BS regardless but that's another story) "Steveyracer98" is a moderator of the unofficial board and he also runs tech inspection for racing AND he's on the staff of Track Daz so is a great resource for race-prepping your bike. WSMC is a little stricter on tech than many other organizations - most notably AMA/DMG. (Message edited by slaughter on February 18, 2009) |

Great info Slaughter thanks! I shall look into it... For now though I feel I need to just go to the track and have fun... I can only do a trackday every other month (I have an 18months old at home, with a second one in the oven), so I just want to ride!!! The New Racer School might be an excellent way to get my technique up to par though........ maybe my wife can offer that one to me (Message edited by wavex on February 18, 2009) (Message edited by wavex on February 18, 2009) |

Not sure if anyone cares around here lol, but since I started the thread, I`ll finish it! Here's the latest on my progress: On Sat. I dropped the forks to replace the oil and took the opportunity to take the triple clamp off the bike to inspect and repack the steering bearings (which needed it badly!)... The chain was also thoroughly cleaned (off the bike) and the master link was swapped with a new one. I had to go to Harbor Freight to buy a $10 hoist (I can't believe their great prices) to make it all work: Also, my hotbodies track plastics got delivered this morning!! (I just checked the tracking info)... which means I am only waiting on the Ron Ayers parts (delivery expected for Wednesday), along with the braided brake lines (bastards said "stock" on their website, but it was actually on back order...)... hopefully I'll get the lines this week too... So here is what's left on the "to do list": 1 chain/sprockets: inspect/clean/adjust: DONE! 2 check battery: DONE! 3 drain fuel from tank 4 oil + filter change 5 replace all coolant hoses 6 replace fuel line 7 flush cooling system (use water wetter) 8 change fork oil: DONE! 9 check steering head bearings and re-pack grease: DONE! 10 check/replace air filter 11 fix handlebar end (right side is loose): DONE! 12 replace spark plugs: DONE! 13 re-build front brake 14 check valves and adjust: DONE! 15 find and fix the electrical turn signal issue 16 check/adjust engine idle speed 17 check/adjust clutch cable: DONE! 18 check/torque main bolts 19 lub control levers + brake pedal, gear shift and side stand pivots 20 install track plastics |
