Got my new rubber, but don't have a stand for the front end. Would I be all right jacking it up from the bottom of the engine (muffler is off) and leaving it on a jackstand for a day or so? Or would i be better off lifting it from the frame and hanging it from a beam? anyone know the size of the front axle nut? |

jacking from the engine is ok, I use a bottle jack. Watch the balance point, and keep the kiddies out of the space |

i would say through a chuck of 2x4 between the bottle jack and engine just to transfer the weight a little bit further |

Definitely put a piece of wood between the jack and the aluminum sump.
Never mind how I know... rt (ps--JB Weld seems to be holding on the repair...) |

How much play should there be in the wheel bearings (if any)? The Rear pulley has a few dings in it, looks like it ate a rock while someone was running the belt too tight, but I think it's ok. I'll get a pic of it up in a little. |

Pulley is ok. Just got my parts for the xb rocker box conversion, and think they may have sent me two front covers. The invoice has them listed correctly (1 17642-02A & 1 17605-00YB), but the covers are identical, and both have the same #'s and markings on the underside (the front one's pn). Will have to get on the phone tomorrow. |

Let me guess, You got them from Harley. I went thru this and went thru 5 rear sets. They had to call Harley at the warehouse and check. It seems that front's were put into rear boxes, Ha.Ha.Ha..Box after box after box were opened at the main warehouse, Guess what? ALL fronts even the the rear boxes. This happened about 6 months ago.. I finally got the last set in the ware house in August 08 until a new shipment was supposed to come in in November. Good luck. I purchased in Pennsylvania so I do not know what regional warehouse you guys have but you are not crazy, it is a front rocker in a rear box and so will the next one be until someone in the ware house opens it before sending it to the dealer, Have the dealer call the warehouse. Mine had to do it because we kept getting fronts in rear boxes.. GOOD LUCK!!!

Same thing when I was buying rider and passenger millenium pegs. I kept getting packages with left side PN#'s but right side pegs. |

I figured it might be something like that. I ordered it from one of the sponsors, cause my dealership is super slow and expensive. This kinda sucks as I wanted to do the conversion and replace the oil pump drive gear this weekend. I guess another week or two wont hurt. I'm missing some great weather, todays high was 72. I'll get the new rubber on tomorrow and should be riding to work on wednesday |

as far as lifting the front end, the front shock mount eye is the best place to lift with a bottle jack |

I avoid jacking the bike -- ratchet straps to the overhead beam in the shop to the handlebars for the front and around the frame under the seat for the back -- I've seen pictures of that cracked case before -- |

I wrap a long fan belt around the frame in front of the tank and lift it with my chain hoist. Then I can block up the front of the bike solidly but take some slack up in the chain so if the blocks slip the bike will remain hanging. Works well. |

I just used a board and a regular jack and had no problems but next time think I'll be lifting it from the rafters, as it was a little unstable. The new rubber is amazing, made a huge difference. Only now I can't find neutral while the bikes running (haven't been able to since I put the new clutch in). I double checked all the adjustments, primary is at 3/4" at the tight spot, clutch adjustment is backed out 1/4 turn from light bottom, cable has about 1/16-1/8" of freeplay at the lever. |

If the mount for the rear shock is still there, place the jack on that bracket. |
