you start out with max weight and thrust.. and as fuel burns, mass is lessened, thus creating greater acceleration because that thrust is pushing less and less weight as time ticks.... acceleration is exponential.
another factor is the atmoshpereic pressure aka baromic pressure.... At ground zero you have to push through much more air than at the top because the air is more dense at the bottom and the high altitude has thinner air...(provided the top is still within our atmosphere).. the higher up you go, the less air you have to push, so that one factor in this equation.. what makes this an exponential is that drag is a completly different factor in tandom of this equation. And drag is drag
==once in space, the rules dont apply like they should as stated above. Newtonn's law - an object will remain in motion unless acted by an external force. This is also where vector mechanics plays its role.. in key note if you need to rotate & spin on axis, there has to be the first & second forces/blasts to get the rotation & spin, and then the opposite force to stop the roataion & spin in its tracks

all the old timers where I work are into that improvational jazz, it drove me nutz. Sounds like my kids going crazy in the band room. Where's the guitars?
Oops sorry wrong beginning, many years ago the "Blackbird" used to fly over my house sometimes, usually after taking off from Mildenhall or Lakenheath, always at dusk or after dark, all you could see of it was the "dancing diamonds" & all you could hear was raw noise!
