I'm considering installing a damper made by GPR. I was almost certain they didn't make a top-of-tree mounted damper for my Lightning because of the handlebars position but i found this one on American Sportsbike! http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-prodshow/9249.html ... i need some feedback from users of this damper before i fork out the $500 for it! I'm not sure if it actually performs as well as the side mounted dampers. Please help, if anyone has any info/experience with this GPR Damper on a Lightning please let me know! Thanks

I think the new GPR even has a double connect - using two of the airbox mounts. I like how they mount up... and I've seen them on Glendale's 1125R and now on Antelope Valley's 1125R that Pinson will be racing at Daytona. Mounts would be the same for an XB. VERY nice installation. Nice thing is that you can easily reach the adjuster while riding. |

I purchased one for my XB12Scg. It's not installed yet but should be very soon. The assembly is beautifuly machined. It comes with a custom machined upper bar clamp which the GPR stabilizer mounts to. The mounting point from the arm goes to just one of the airbox bolt holes. Waiting for a primary cover from my local HD-Buell shop and also switching out my rims for black ones while I wait. I'll be glad to post when everything is back together and have some miles on her. Can't wait to try it out. (Message edited by lllbmanlll on February 16, 2009) |

Anybody tried mounting this to a bike with Crossroads bars on it? |

I don't think you're correct, Steve. I've been in constant contact with GPR on these and I've had no mention of a mount that picks up both airbox screws. The firebolt/115R version fits and works great. The lightning version has an issue that I'm working with GPR to resolve. It won't fit with crossroads bars, YET. I'll have something for that soon. Al, What kind of issue is there with the Lightning version? Should I not install mine? |

Is there an SS TT version in the works? Would love to have one of these on my SS. |

Hey Al, I am definitely interested in one that works with the crossroads. Let me know when you have more info. |

We have sold two to lightning customers. Both had issues with the reaction arm not sitting all the way down in the reaction post, and some issues with binding when turned full lock one direction. The firebolt version had no such issue. Jared, I'd go ahead and install it and see if you have the same issue. If any doubts that it is working right, you can leave most of it on and just remove the damper until we hear back. I've been communicating back and forth with GPR on it, but I think they went to the Indy show because I'm still waiting for a couple responses from last week. The lightning one should fit the SS too, but not an 08 or later Uly because the handlebar is moved forward on those. I need some dimensional info from them prior to designing the crossroads version. I'm still waiting for that. The fix for the lighting version, if there is one, may impact this. Al |

Al, Please update this thread or create a new one once the CRG/Lightning issue is resolved. I have an '08 XB12S which i'd love to install a GPR on. I considered the LSL damper that mounts under the lower triple but i'm concerned about jambing it on a stoppie or hard brake when the front's fully compressed. Please keep us posted on the GPR/Lightning progress! Thx |

Hey Al, I had asked you for your opinion on these as I would like some for my XBR's. From the photo's I've seen they look/seem a bit hokey in the way they connect to the frame. It just doesn't look like you would get a lot of support from the arm with it being spaced off the frame an inch or so. Looks like you would need to at least use a grade 5 or 8 bolt or else you will just be snapping bolts off in your frame. Have these been stress tested ? Do you need a stress tester ? |

I'd like to see it react to both screws rather than one, but it seems to work OK. I expressed my concerns to GPR, they modified the design so that the airbox plastic isn't in compression by putting a spacer in the hole that takes the compressive load. The bolt should be strong enough as long as it maintains clamp load, otherwise, fatigue may be an issue. I'd still like to see them increase the spacer wall thickness and have told them so. Al |

Doesn't the new design react the loads into BOTH the airbox screws now? |

Not that I've seen. I just got some 1.5 weeks ago from them. I'd love to see them built like that, though. Al |

Me too, when they are I'll need 4 black ones. |

GPR has a good reputation, so I would expect them to take such simple recommendations to heart. Especially when it will save them money (and return customers) in the long run. If my bike showed any tendency to headshake/tankslap I wouldn't hesitate to use a GPR damper, especially since the rotary dampers are so much more elegant in their design than the traditional linear dampers. |

Hello, I recently purchased a GPRv4 for my 2004 Buell Lightning XB12. I used to have a side mount stabilizer. I would recommend the GPR mount to everyone, it's the finest stabilizer I have had for my Buell. Also I have had many others on my non Buell bikes. It's easy to adjust and offers everything you'd expect from a stabilizer. Simply great stuff. I'd like to talk about the issues I had when installing. But please note that everything was completely resolved. I wanted to post this story for others to understand. Well, first off I want to give a big thanks to Al at American Sportbike and Loren at GPR. After purchasing the GPRv4 I read over the instructions and began. The first thing was that the new bolt provided for the new clamp were the wrong size, so don't use them. They are not to be used and should no longer be shipping with the v4. The were included in the packaging. One thing to note is to make sure when you attach the clamp that the v4 sits on that it sits at the right angle, matching the top tree otherwise you can have some binding issues. After attaching this clamp and mounting the support post(tower) to the side I put the v4 onto the top mount. But the arm coming out to the tower was not seating all the way into the tower. This was a concern. After talking with Al and Loren a new tower was designed to fit better. Make sure that if you are ordering one from American Sportbike or GPR that you get the longer tower for the lightning model. The new post that was made and sent to me allows the arm from v4 to seat right. Everyone was wonderful it getting this issue resolved. I am sure that the new, taller tower will ship with the units for the Lightning models as well as no bolt to mount the new clamp top. Kudos to Al and Loren. I have two photos to show you what I have talking about. If you want to know more about this just send me a note or continue this thread. I'll be checking periodically. JT

JT, I'm very close to buying this damper for my 08xb12s. How's it holding up? It looks like the vertical arm that bolts in the frame could be an issue since it's held by a single bolt and only has the frame to resist torquing. Have you had any issues with the product at all? Can they provide 2 support arms in lieu of the one? thanks for your help, |
