My '06 Uly has developed the habit of showing me the engine light for 8 seconds after the normal first showing. I looked up the procedure for code reading in the manual using the blink test method and now I'm just confused. Rather than 6 rapid blinks, followed by the code, I get eleven rapid blinks (repeating). I don't find this condition in the manual. I posted first in the KV but I'm not getting any response. Can anyone enlighten me? |

It's getting more weird. I cleaned batt conections and the 8 second light is gone. IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT! I hope my baby aint sick. |

How does it run? Are there problems or symptoms? Weird light flashes can be bad grounds or shorted wires not really throwing a code. |

Mine was doing that for a while. I pulled the code using a jumper wire- I don't remember the number but the description was "ROM Failure" or some such thing. Still ran and operated normally, so I thought if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It has since stopped doing that. Always in the back of my mind is the reassuring thought that I have AAA unlimited motorcycle towing coverage. |

11 fast flash count indicates no trouble code. Here is a link that has the code list. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/224753.html |

Davo, Thank you. Did I miss that in the shop manual? Where did you get the info? Thanks again. |

dan, I think got it out of an original 06 manual but I no longer have the manual so I can not confirm. I know that I checked for codes many times and got a 10 or 11 fast count and when I checked the ECM with VDSTS-Pro USA it confirmed no codes. There were some codes that the early versions of vdsts missed and the manual method picked up. I never left home without my jumper wire. I sold my Uly a couple of years ago but I do miss it. |

I will be stuffing that wire in the tool roll along with the codes. Is it possible that when I disconnected the battery to clean the terminals the stored codes were erased? |

If I remember correctly it there are two ways to clear a codes. One way is to use software. The other method is a number of ignition/engine starts and stops after the trouble has been cleared. It is thirty starts on my Ultra's Delphi system and I think the VDO-EFI system has a similar historic codes clearing procedure to the Delphi system. I know that I have checked ECMs that were sent to me in the mail and I never had a historic code on them but the AFV (adaptive fuel value) was stored even after the ECM was disconnected from the wiring harness, (Message edited by davo on February 13, 2009) |
