willits, ca; The record maximum temperature was 108 °F (42 °C) on July 15, 1972, and the record minimum temperature was 5 °F (-15 °C) on December 9, 1972. funny that, lowest and highest in the same year! i was 5 in the summer and turned 6 three days before the coldest day! On July 25, 1936, the state's highest temperature was reached in both Atlantic and Logan with 117 degrees, and that's not a heat index, it's the actual temperature. He says even the lows on that day in those cities were 84 so it was "amazingly hot." Hillaker says it's hard to fathom just how hot 117 is -- especially in that era when there were no air conditioners. While Dubuque was the state's cool spot that day with 90 degrees, he says other parts of Iowa, particularly in the southwest, had overnight lows in the upper 80s, so they never even got relief during the nighttime hours. | ||

what is the humidity like in australia anyway. i know here on top of the triple digit heat it can be extremely humid. alot of times an air conditioner will be run for no other reason than to get the humidity out of the house. its surprising how much difference that one thing makes even if the actual temperature doesnt drop much. i just have a couple small window airs in my apartment, so they dont make a big change, but they can help make it a little more tolerable. | ||

Australia gets a LOT hotter than NZ. 50c (122F) is the hottest I've ridden in back home. South Australian Desert. Humidity depends on how far north. East coast runs from Tropics to Antarctic Ocean. (Message edited by danger_dave on February 12, 2009) | ||

50c (122F) is the hottest I've ridden in back home. South Australian Desert. I was once up in the Gold Coast when it was 103F with high humidity. My Aussie friends were loving it, I on the other hand wanted to die.  | ||

Dave, 32 degrees!!!...........phhht........it was 42 on my front verandah the other day (112 F). When the Victorian bushfires were on I was up at Dorrigo with some other girls...........came down Dorrigo mountain through Bellingen and now Bellingen is cut off this week because of heavy rains. Babired, We got a lot of those Koala pictures here in Australia, they are wild animals but they were coming up to people for a drink of water because of the Victorian bushfires. We have over 200 people dead and the total is supposed to go to 300, the whole country is in shock, it's our worst natural disaster in Australia. |
