I don't know about you guys but I'm getting sick of my front isolators failing! I have a design idea in mind for fixing this, It will involve fabricating a new head mount and frame mount. It will use a shackle type bush mounted horozontally not vertically as standard. it will still give damping affect in all of it's planes of movement but hopefully wont fail as easily. And the plus side to this if it does work you can get replcement bush from auto parts store for less $$$$. The bush I'm looking at experimenting with is from a Holden cars suspension. Heres a clue as to what I'm getting at. What do you think?

Joe - Here is a simpler solution, just replace the rubber isolators with solid bushings. The rubber isolators are unnecessary and never were needed in the first place. I never understood the why the factory decided to rubber mount an exhaust system to a rubber mounted engine where the exhaust had no attachment points to the frame that everything is isolated from. In fifteen years of Buell ownership I have never experienced an exhaust breakage, as I understood the sensitivity of the mounting procedure to ensure not loading any stress into the system. However, when the first isolators of mine hogged out I thought this is whacked, with the isolators actually causing the excessive harmonics that were destroying them. I then started to solid mount the exhaust to the engine with no problems. I was actually criticized for doing so until I pointed out that Buell changed to solid mounting with the XB’s and HD rubber mounted engines never used isolators on their exhaust systems except where they are supported by the frame. Even in the case of the HD’s the isolator is mounted axially to the engine oscillations as opposed to Buell using the same units radially. Just make solid bushings for the stock mounts and follow the buell mounting procedure and you will have no problems with a tuber exhaust. (Message edited by rickie_D on February 14, 2009) |

He's not talking about the exhaust. He's talking about the front isolator between engine and chassis. Joe, are you using XB or tuber front isolator? |

Blake I'm currently using stock ones! The bloody things can last 5000k's/500 or 20000K's why? theres no consistancy to these isolators! I've just been to Supa Cheap Auto and found some urethane bushes that with a little mod may fit into the old isolator I have spare here. I'll post pictures when I chop it up My exhausts is solid mounted to the engine too |

Any chance that the heim joints might benefit from a re-adjustment? It certainly isn't normal for front isolators to fail so frequently. My thinking is that unless the root cause can be identified and resolved, you may very likely chase the problem to other more serious points of failure. This is very interesting to me on account of I'm interested in doing much of the X-bike upgrades to my old Cyclone that you have pioneered. |

Hey Blake I am having similar issues the "new iso on the fromt of my X1 appears to be failing too, and it was installed last june |
