Rpm- I'm currently on the "involuntary 3-day weekend" plan right now at work, so Fridays are riding days for me. I can probably meet up and cruise with you a way just for kicks, down through ATL and beyond. I would welcome 3 day weekends. I usually get wednesday and sunday off. Were so busy on the days I do work that I cant get out of the place. I am glad that I have a job and all, but this vacation cant come fast enough. Keep us informed...you may have a buell rally started before it's all over! That would be awesome! |

Just a suggestion for the Naples to the Keys segment- Instead of Alligator Alley (AKA I-75), take a right at the last exit before the toll gate. IIRC, that'll put you on county 951 which after a few miles crosses US41, the (in)famous Tamiami Trail. Turn left on 41 eastbound, straight and flat but way more intimate than the I-Alley. To avoid Miama traffic, turn right at Krome (FL 997), and it'll lead you right down to US 1 and onto the keys. Before the ride, study up on the history of the area- it's a fascinating story of corruption and civil engineering. I made the trip in the 4 wheeler a month ago and had no trouble making it from Naples to the Keys and back to the mainland by dark and made it back to Naples in time for the 10 o'clock news. If you cancel the test ride in Brandon, you might want to try 2 laning from around the turnpike exit on I-75 to around Ft. Meyers to avoid the Tampa traffic and extra mileage caused by the freeway's "bump out" to Tampa. |

hey rpm, our appointments to test ride the spyder is at like 9 and 9:45 on that saturday. when you get ready to leave saturday morning or at your first fuell stop, give me a shout(813-601-1625) and we'll try and hook up with you along 75 or which ever way you decide to come down this way. saturday traffic isn't to bad around here so you won't have to worry a lot about it, no matter which way you come. |

I'm still interested. Looks like the weather may not be perfect like it was this past weekend though. By the way, are you still planning on taking some local tours, or are you trying to get to specific locations? |

By the way, are you still planning on taking some local tours, or are you trying to get to specific locations? We wanted to spend a lot more time in the southern TN, and northern GA area but the weather forecast doesnt look too good so far. As of right now we are planning a somewhat swift run south to warmth with the hope of warmer weather on the return. If the forecast on the return looks worse than the way down we may want to spend more time there on the first day. If we have people to available meet up with along the way we will try to make that happen. We are trying to keep a loose schedule so we can adapt to weather, local meetups, and touring all at the same time. My thinking with this thread is to see what I have to work with and make the most of it. I dont forsee me locking down any definate plans until the last few days when I have a rough idea of what the weather will be like on the return. If temps are as predicted I most likely will spend thursday night in nashville with a friend. In the morning I will haul to Ringgold Ga, drop, and head south from there. I still want to run through tenn and suches. I have also thought that if the weather is better in this area on the return I would come up through the east side of GA accross TN and back down to Ringgold. Sorry for being so vague but like I said I really think I need to see what kind of temps Im dealing with before I commit to anything. Runnin suches at 41 degrees or 55 degrees is a big difference. |

Hey , Rpm you coming to my house? If the offer still stands. Im still holding out hope that the temps will be higher than they are currently predicting. If so we will still drop in Nashville. |

Being vague is probably the best way to be right now, considering the weather. I'll keep checking this thread and since I haven't worked for 3 months, my schedule is wide open. |

Nashville Friday, and dropping trailer? I'm in Murfreesboro (25 miles south and east on I-24 / Hwy 41) and have a spot for your rig while your riding. Ask Barker to meet you here he knows the way. You could actually take 41 from M'Boro all the way to MontEagle without giving up much time for that 70 miles. Much better ride. I may even be able to ride that far with you on Friday. T |

I fully understand that whatever happens to my truck is on me. This might be the best compromise for us. 40 minutes of less cold weather without giving up the Hwy 41 ride. Well I went on a 30 minute test ride to test out some of my newer cold weather gear. I also tried out a new set of ear buds I got that double as ear plugs. It's a beautiful sunny day here but only a frigid 18 degrees. I was impressed by how well everything worked. I dont think high 40s will be a problem. I forgot how fast this thing is! Looks like the temps are predicted to be cool but sunny. High 40s/low 50s for Friday the 20th. Im going to take tnxbrider up on his offer to drop in Murfreesburo. I will start locking down some semi permanent plans tuesday night after we load up and I can see the latest weather predictions. |

Let me know if I missed anybody or if anybody else would like to join in. This is a list of the people that mentioned they might be able to pop in along with our adventure... or ride along for the whole thing if you feel like it. The times can be adjusted + or - and hour or two to be more inclusive. Friday we plan to leave Bumpus in Murfreesboro around 10am. Temps are predicted to be mid 40s on departure. Planning of taking 41 south and popping on the slab just before Chattanoga. Barker,Tnxbrider and Canyon_Carver, are you guys still interested? Since the temps will be chilly for the first leg so I dont blame you guys if ya bail. Xb1200rick, are you up for a few miles, or mabey just lunch? I was thinkin that mabey you and Eaton_Corners could meet up with us at a food joint off HWY 151 around 12:30pm. We would be due for fuel and it looks like a decent compromise for a meeting location. Does that sound alright to you guys? Acav80, New12r, we would be in your area around 3or4pm. Are either of you interested? Rush hour in Atlanta, even typing this freightens me. I dont think we will be in Valdosta till late but who knows. Mm128 I can keep in touch as we get closer but I was thinking mabey we could plan a breakfast instead. It would be easier if your down with that. Saturday we have a short day. Nevrenuf, do you have a place in mind to meet up? Mabey a resturaunt? Any different roads we should be looking into? Our only goal is to make Naples area by nightfall. Sunday is to cross tamiami trail and south to the florida keys. we dont plan to stay there just ride down and back out. Planning on staying north of miami somewhere. Monday we will be visiting Dans grand parents and working our way up to Savanna Ga. Tuesday and Wednsday we will be working our way up the east side of Ga through Suches and back to Murfreesboro. By the way, Murfreesboro is a really effed up name that I have misspelled countless times over the last week. |

rpm- Not going to work out for me. I'll maybe pass you in the other direction on my way to my buddy's farm near chattanooga to do some work there for the weekend. Look for a Uly northbound on I-75 between Chattanooga and Atlanta. I have a headlight out. Have a good trip and watch yourself in downtown ATL at rush hour. Hit the HOV and stay there, watch your six and you'll be fine. |

rpm. just give me a call when you stop for gas in the morning and let me know where your at. i know the trip all to well after working up in chattanooga the year before so i know what kind of day your going to have to get down to ft myers by night fall. as far as roads around here go, they aren't nothing to write home about so i was just gonna ride north at some point to try and catch up with ya and if you want to get off the beaten path that'll be fine. that's why i have the gps. i can get lost with out worrying about finding my way back home again. |

Lunch on Friday sounds good to me. I may even ride a little ways. I'll keep an eye on the weather, maybe I can meet ya'll in Suches on your way back. Sounds good. I will call you Friday before we depart from Bumpus. I'm on my way to shoot some bobsleds @ Lake Placid. As in New York? Were you not just in Alaska? I want to be rich like Barker! Kidding. Thanks for the tips on the roads. I will definately hit those. Look for a Uly northbound on I-75 between Chattanooga and Atlanta. I have a headlight out. Will do. Look for a black lightning without a burned out light. just give me a call when you stop for gas in the morning and let me know where your at. i know the trip all to well after working up in chattanooga the year before so i know what kind of day your going to have to get down to ft myers by night fall. Saturday we are only coming from Valdosta. Do you want me to call you before we hit the slab or after the first fuel stop? The first fuel stop would put us roughly 100 miles out of brandon. I'll see you in M'Boro Friday A.M. Will do. Thanks again for letting us park there. (Message edited by rpm4x4 on February 17, 2009) |
