I was riding the other day and the belt broke on me... I was looking at replacing with the upgrade kit. Does anyone know where to find the best price or is it worth spending the $$? |

How many miles on the belt? Is it the original belt, or has it been replaced? And, are all the original belt guards in place? I ask because I'm still riding my 03 on the original belt, with no problems (so far--knock on wood). I've pretty much decided to stick with the original Gates drivebelt rather than upgrade to the newer design, partially because I kinda like the look (newer design has larger pulleys, I think). On the other hand, I understand the current belt has a "lifetime" rating... |

I think I recall seeing someone recommend replacing with a newer belt, possibly an 05 or 06 XBR belt. try one of the sponsors that offers discounts, Appleton HD hooked me up like whoa on my XBSL suspension with a 10% discount for being a badwebber. |

I've got an 03 and the original belt broke at 10k but i've heard of others lasting 30k +. It just depends on guards, debris on roads, and luck I guess......I paid about $400 for the upgrade setup at American Sport Bike and its well worth it even got the polished rear pulley for that price. And the newer belt dwarfs the original. One inexpensive way to get the parts needed to do the swap is to buy used parts from take offs and people parting bikes like on sleaze-bay....I would have to look but I think I still have the factory pulleys from an 06 if you want, not sure of the condition but I'll look....shoot me a pm if your interested... |

I'm curious about the upgrade too. Is the size and pitch the same on an '09 belt? |

Yes the 09 belts are the same size, so if you do the upgrades just go to the 09 belt, G0500.1AAG I think that is the right number off the top my head. You would also need the 04+ sprockets and pulleys if you have an 03 model. |

It is the original belt, the bike has 11k miles and I had just recently removed the guards. I had read that they trapped gravels or debri and could cause the belt to break. |

You are more likely to ingest rocks into your belt system without the guards. I have only seen one person actually get a rock stuck in the guard against the belt. Hell my old rear sprocket was all chewed up from rocks offroading without the guards. |

Get the newer style belt and pulleys. You'll be amazed at how much more substantial the newer belt is. |

i was lucky enuff to have seen the warning sings on the exposed section of belt, and swapped it out with a hand-me-down from a buddy who upgraded. the next time i may not be so lucky, and will upgrade unless there's another free-bee for me to prolong the magic with |
