I used to go to the IMS in NYC every year and ask the folks running the H-D display if they had a VR 1000 to check out. They thought I was in the wrong manufacturers area or they thought I was just delusional. I never did get to put the peepers on one in person. |

HD put one on display at the Museum. You can sit on it. I have no idea how anybody could ride the thing. |

you need to stop by Uke's during homecoming...or the new H-D museum for that matter, both should have them on display. Just one more reason to come out and play at homecoming with the rest of us Buell nuts! |

How the AMA ever allowed this bike to be "homologated" and raced still amazes me. |

I don't even want to know what the H.E.L.L. "homologated" means. |

How the AMA ever allowed this bike to be "homologated" and raced still amazes me. Same way they allowed the XBRR in FX |

How the AMA ever allowed this bike to be "homologated" and raced still amazes me. What do you mean? They made 50 bikes available for sale in Poland. Seems pretty straight forward to me. |

Poland ??? All 50 ??? I know one is sitting in a doctors garage where I live. Ukes is down the road a bit. The owner Keith has one of the 50. Hal's I believe owns one as well. They sure were neat to watch a listen to even though they never really did well. |

I think the key was that they were legal in Poland for homologation purposes, never really any attempt to sell them there. The AMA is certainly not anti-Harley. |

Ahhhh,I see none are road legal here and they have signals, lights and such on them. |

Great color scheme for a road going race bike though. You can blow by the cops going one way, make a U turn and putt by them going the other and they'd never recognize you. Need a two tone matching helmet and you're set!!! |

It's a great color scheme for a race bike too, although we have had family members with us ask where Michael went because they weren't seeing the black or orange (depending on which side of the track/which corner they were watching from) bike go by because the other side was facing them at that point of the track If the race bike and my brother's street (full fairing) firebolt weren't already wearing that paint scheme I would have been very tempted to paint my bike in that scheme. At first I favored the black side, but the orange side is now the favorite. |

Just think, the VR 1000 is the result of Erik Buell being reigned in on the concept and design of the chassis and mounting system. He had (according to common lore) the concept of the 1125 in mind at the time complete with most if not all of the trilogy of tech on the drawing board but was shot down because it was too radical of a departure from the "state of the art" of the day. Think the design by committee group-think missed the boat in a big way? Imagine where we would be if Erik was able to get the prototypes for the 1125 built and tested 13+ years earlier. Makes me really wonder about the "what-ifs". |

>>>Ahhhh, so those were the guys wearing argyle sweaters and pink shoes. Nope . . just look for the special tag. . . I still keep mine in my wallet . . . the HD I.D. with my photo in riding gear has gotten me out of many tickets.

Close . . . and they REALLY missed the boat. I cornered Erik in a car for 30 minutes and recorded the entire story so we'll have it to tell someday. HD was but 2 egos away from having a world class race bike and they used the wrong person for a scape goat when their project went afoul. DaveG will tell the entire story when it's time. |

I seem to remember that the chassis was world class, it just kept DNFing all the time for the first couple of years due to electronics or engine issues. Then once it was reliable, it didn't have enough power to keep up because the world had passed the engine by. Great riders and great chassis. |

Happened by Latus Motors in Portland some years ago, and they had one sitting on the showroom floor.Did spend time looking at it. Pictures really don't do the details justice. And the whole package is sm-all. |

It is truly amazing(in a awful way) how egos can derail projects. Then put the blame for the failure elsewhere. |

Well, now HD has a new race bike under a different name. Curious to see how the Buell 1125R will do over it's life. |

"Nope . . just look for the special tag." There's an area on the bottom floor that's behind a big security door. I was told its the Area 51 of the PDC and special employee "clearance" is needed. The guys in argyle sweaters, pink shoes and special name tags must work in there. I thought it had something to do with metallurgy though. I did see the Screamin Eagle race lab. they had a XBRR race motor and a VR1000 motor in a sectional views. I got caught petting the metal parts. |

Anyone run an 1125R thru Photoshop to get the black/orange paint with white stripe in the middle, a la the VR1000? I've thought for some time that a paint/graphics treatment like this would look kewl. I need one of you smart computer gurus to prove me right... Might add some "Rat Fink" flourishes here and there, flaming bloody eyeballs and such. |
