reading the post below i thought i would share some news. my 99s3-t rear exhaust lifter came apart at 12300 miles. destroyed the oil pump drive gear. destroyed 3 of the cams and spun out 2 cam lifter bushing holes in the block. all back together now just waiting on a rear tire. |

Any idea how the lifter failed? Pre-00 are supposed to have the bigger lifters.... |

my guy at the machine shop seemed to think they were supplied from the lowest bidder to harley .i replaced them with fueling lifters and andrews n-4 cams.not to mention $1000 in machine work. the same thing happened on my FXR at 30000 miles. |

i had to repair the bosses that the cam bushings go in(reweld them and hone to size)rebore 2 lifter bosses and split the case to inspect the rotating assembly, cut down the cam cover for easy access to oil pump and modified the internal oiling to get oil to the cams sooner. the oil now gets to the cams before waiting for the oil to fall down through the push rod tubes |
