So I am still dialing in my new Ulysses. My suspension settings from the dealer were crazy, but I am taking care of that. While I really like the windscreen for 3-4 hour rides, I am thinking more protection might be good for all day riding. The Madstad system looks very good. For those of you who have it, do you like it? Anything I should know? | ||

You really need to try it out yourself. There are so many opinions on windscreens, even the same windscreens, by people of the same height, that you really can't tell which is better until you try it. I like mine with the stock screen, or no screen at all. A lot of guys can't stand it. Not a lot of help, I know. Just my assessment of the matter. | ||

Ulynut has it right. There is no right answer. Air flow is impacted by windshield size(width may be more important then height), attack angles, body to windshield distance, helmet type, neck gaitor/closures, your height/width, jacket type/size, Tank bags (personal experience), etc. Brackets will give you more adjustment, for attack angle and body to windshield distance, but there are still about a dozen other things to try. I tried brackets - found an improvement over stock , but in the end, Buell tall windshield and a Tank Bag did it for me. 6'2 - 230#. But the standard windsheild and the brackets were a definte improvement (no more eternal pullup) | ||

Yep - what Ulynut & GSsilvernale said. I have the palmer brackets with a 16" Parabellum (taller, wider & more curvature than stock) Tried stock and ZG+4 with / without brackets. The current combo works best for me with tankbag. Experimentation can get expensive - I conversed with all the very helpful, inseam impaired 5'8" Uly riders I could find, that had already tried numerous combinations. The Uly aint no touring bike (for that I could take the ST with electric windscreen - but usually don't) but you can achieve significant improvement. | ||

Jphish, I have not seen the 16" parabellum screen. Where can I find that option? I know it is a personal thing, and I had switchblades on my VTX so I could pick what was best for the day. That is why I thought the Madstad might be good since I would have two different windscreens, and the adjustment. I need to make an effort so my wife doesn't complain when she rides two-up. | ||

I need to make an effort so my wife doesn't complain when she rides two-up. That's why I ordered the Madstad with their custom windshield for my XT. I was plenty happy with the Buell tall screen but my wife's tiny neck couldn't take the wind pressure. It's been too cold here for her to want to ride but I will report back later. I just hope I did not waste $300. | ||

Everyone has hinted to the real problem with the ULY wind issue. It's the wind that comes from under the wind screen and up the front of the frame that is the cause of the turbulant air. With the tank bag on it does block a ton of turbulant air. I have the Madstad with the Buell tall screen. It is what works for me at 5'7" with the screen full up and full forward and the tank bag installed. I have about 10,000 miles with the setup. It was a toss up for me between the Parabellum and the Madstad. I'm a shop close to home kind of guy. When I lived in GA I took a look at the parabellum becuase they were right up the road. They just didn't have the adjustability. | ||

I have have the madstad setup... I'm experimenting.. so far I've used the 26" and 16" parabllum as well as an one of the +2" Cee-Baily's and I do have a Tank bag (it matters). As usual, the air of the Parabellums is very clean .. The 26" is really to big for the madstad (I had to replace the thumb screws to keep it in place, Mark at Madstad was great to work with getting this sorted out and it does block a lot of wind when its cold). I think I'm going to go with a Parabellum thats somewhere in the 12"-14" inch range. That combined with the Madstad will suit me well. As everyone points out.. experimenting is a must...I have an unfair advantage.. Charli used my bike to do his original fitment... so he lets me try them when I need to.... Both the Parabellum and MadStad products are top notch.. I would recommend both. | ||

Snake - bought my Parabellum used ($100) - previous owner had it cut down by factory. Too much sail area & pressure on the stock flyscreen @ 22 - 24". 18" would be the max I'd go - but I'm only 5'8" - That could be too short for taller people. Rotor is right - its partly the back pressure & turbulence dynamics that produces all the "air" behind screen. Moving the screen forward on the brackets (Madstad or Palmer) alleviates alot of that. I chose the Parabellum because of previous history, and it comes tinted. Heard good things about Madstad screen - but they werent out 18 mos ago & you have to replace fly screen to accomodate windshield... I think. Gamdh's musings are right on target too. j | ||

MadStad with the ZG+4 Very happy with the results. The adjustability is terrific as condition vary. | ||

I mounted the madstad w/their wind shield right before riding to Buelltoberfest in Georgia. When riding at night the full forward and up position was a lot warmer than stock however it's pretty noisy. Earplugs for longer rides would be a good thing. When warmer, all the way down and back was quiet a had smooth air. Adjustability was nice. I didn't have a tank bag either. |
