Nope, YOU need the license. If it is found out that HIS stuff made it to you for street use, he'd get cut off.

He'd need to be a racer with a Buell VIN on file with Buell Racing so it would be pretty obvious to Buell that they were being scammed. All the applications are in the racing section at Buell.com

This is a very common question on Badweb and elsewhere - but you gotta realize that ANY race parts that MIGHT end up on the street might mean a very expensive fine for the manufacturer. If that happens too many times, it won't be long before those parts aren't even available any longer to those of us who ACTUALLY use them for racing.

Hopefully you'll understand - and realize that the factories are painted into a corner by the laws they're forced to live under (DOT and EPA)

There are some parts that are available - but none that mess with the engine... bummer but that's where it's come to.

JT - IF "your pilot" has the papers on file with Buell Racing, HE can get the parts through his dealer. That's just how it works. This is how it's been for a few years now. A HD or Buell dealer CANNOT just go and buy racing stuff if it's NOT going to be actually RACED.

Problem isn't with Buell - it's with Congress and your State Government(s).

Yessiree - go look at what Dris at Twinmotorcycles is up to - and take heart. There WILL be aftermarket stuff for the bikes.

Almost all Buell racing parts are available without a race license. Only EPA-related parts (race ECU and any exhausts) require you have a copy of your race license on file with Buell Racing.

I don't think the issue is keeping "racing" items off the street for fear of the government, as that happens all the time already. It is a matter of getting limited parts to people who actually race. Otherwise the "hobbists" with deep pockets would scoop them all up.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my last post. What Anony said above is TRUE - there is a TON of work that you can do to your bike with the race hardware that you CAN get without a racing license. You really ought to look into all that you CAN do for suspension and handling.

My crusade is to make a bike HANDLE properly before even considering that I might "NEED" more power. Power doesn't make me faster, predictable and well-sorted handling DOES.

You can go to Buell.com and download the parts and accessories catalog at the link: http://www.buell.com/en_us/gear/catalog/

If you get the part numbers before you go to your dealer, it'll help them get the stuff ordered for you.

There is a lot available... just nothing that will violate EPA rules with the engine. Enjoy the fun handling part of riding. Simply "dialling up" more power doesn't make riding fun. Turning-in, throttle-on, braking, are MUCH more fun than just twisting the wrist (unless we're sharing some beers)

I may do some racing this year (sadly, not on a Buell). In order to get a race license with WERA, you have to complete the racing school (which I've done) then run as a provisional novice (wearing a day glow shirt over your leathers). If you don't kill yourself or anyone else, then you are eligible for an novice license.

With the requirement that you have to have a license to get race parts, but you have to race to get a license, it's a real chicken or the egg thing. Basically, you're forced to run your stock parts until you are issued your license at which point you could get race ECUs and exhausts. Which is probably not a bad thing since you're most likely not going to go out and start winning as a provisional novice unless your name is Valentino or Nickey.

I'm sure it's all a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo causing this. That's very sad.

I'm running a race ECM, exhaust, and air filter on my Ulysses from back in the day when any Joe Schmoe could buy them.

So sad to see those days gone.
