has anyone taken the plastic cover off, the one directly touching their left foot when they are on the bike? on mine, there is alot of very fine red powdery stuff. is this normal? if so, what is it? at first i thought maybe clutch dust, but thats not the clutch... more like the main drive pulley. it resembles brake dust, only red. That's just proof that the black ones are faster. You won't find it on any other color 25r. They call it "go fast" powder I think...the other colors come stock with "no fast" powder and require an upgrade, which I think is covered in the factory warranty. You don't need a race license but you do have to admit the black ones are faster and sign an affidavit stating you bought the slower color by mistake. I went out and swiped my fingers under there and sure enough they came out reddish brown. That's the last time I go exploring the FUMUNDA regions. I'm thinking its just belt dust mixed with a road grime.

Its coming from the belt sprocket, there is a rubber dampener built into it and the two pieces of the sprocket must rub on each other and produce this dust. |

Sounds like you got some rusted muffler bearings. |

RUST FROM WHAT Go here and scroll down to the sprocket picture. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/426696.html?1233757802 (The valve check and spark plug replacement thread) As Chevycummins said, two pieces of the sprocket rubbing together. A little bare metal, a little moisture, a little surface rust and a little rubbing together again. That's what I think, but I don't have one in front of me. That is one reason why there is a cover afforded here. Simple friction particulates (from the forward compensator) wearing to dust and doing what raw steels/irons do..."rust" and/or oxidize... when exposed to our riding environments. Wipe down, put the cover back on and try to forget about it. There is nothing wrong. |

Mikelly, The black ones NEED that dust, so they can keep up with the white ones Jake |
