Hi, I need to rebuild the top end of my xb9s. Oil leak is at the lower rocker cover gasket or at the push rod cover o-ring. front jug only. Is there a brand of gasket that is best.Or what are some things I should be carfull of as I tear the head off? How easy is it to pull the motor? Please let me know as riding season is on its way and would love to have it ready by then! Thank you AAron! |

James Gaskets are better than the OEM gaskets and only pennies more expensive. Last time I called James, they said they are available at your local Harley dealer, (I think that was a joke). Ask her for their mail order distributor. I forget the guys name, but he was very knowledgeable. http://www.jamesgaskets.com/ The answers to the rest of your questions are in the Shop manual. You do have the manual right? If not, get one, and the Parts Book as well. In addition to the part numbers, the Parts Book has excellent exploded views of all the assemblies, and can be a real life saver when putting things back together for the first time. To work on the front jug, you don't need to remove the motor, just rotate it down, (I think, never actually done it myself). Guys who have, like Glitch, say they can do it in an hour or so.

Find the leak before you start taking things apart. You may just have to re-torque a few bolts. |

"Last time I called James, they said they are available at your local Harley dealer, (I think that was a joke)." Yeah, that is a joke. The 3 HD emporiums around me had to order from Drag Specialties, and then I'd have to buy in qty of 5. Ended up buying from Dennis Kirk. (OEM 11124). |
