I've been working in the "garden state" for the past two weeks. Every day, it seems to get harder, not easier, to navigate through this completely retarded road system. Who the HELL came up with this monkey fart road system? No left turns when you need to go left, no right turns when you need to go right, no U-turns when they make you go past your turn!!!??? Don't get me started on the series of pot holes on all these jug handle things. My steering wheel sits at about 2:00 now, and I get a nice new vibration when I get to go any faster than 45 mph. I say we bulldoze the whole thing and build it right. Whew, felling better now, rant over. |

Amen. I lived in Jersey for about 8 months while I was going to school out there, I couldn't stand living there anymore so I transfered back to NY. |

I have lived here my whole life I honestly shitmyself with happiness whenever I get out of this GODFORSAKEN 2 bit built by an Irishman at lunchtime road system. I have put in 6 sets of rear and 3 sets of front shocks in 4 years. PS don't use your blinker it only lets them know where you are going and they cut you off faster. BTW wher in Jersey are ya |

OH man don't get me started, I was born and raised NJ (not something to brag about) and learned to drive in that giant mess. The best Analogy I have heard is the roads were laid out by a drunk Indian draging a stick. Only there have I seen a pot hole, IN a pot hole. My parents still live there and HATE it. they are less then 2 miles from the grocery store and if My mom leave at the wrong time of day it will take 45 min to get there. How is it a good idea to have the main NW coridoor (206) 2 lanes and 45 mph? Also, thank you Somerset county, Route 95 goes from freakn Maine to Florida with the exception of these 40 miles where you have to jump from 195 to 295 and back in forth due to the F'ed up government Rant off, Can you tell why I moved? I feel your pain Ulynut. Take Brumbears advice, singling is pointless. |

I am born and raised in North Jersey. I was forced to sink or swim. I learned to swim like Mark Spits. When I get behind the wheel I am so hopped up it's like a shot of adrenaline in my aorta. No-one can go fast enough and they are all retards. I honestly see MAYBE one other driver a week who knows how to do it and does it. By the time I get to my high stress job I'm all stressed out already. The big Uly trip I am planning for this summer is also a recon mission for a new place to hang my helmet. I am thinking somewhere in the south west. I figure that it will take between one and two years to de-compress and get the Dirty Jersey out of my system. I can hardly wait. |

NJ roads suck. I lived there for about a year in Colts Neck/Leonardo for the Navy and I hated every minute of it. I am originally from LA, where the streets, for the most part, make nice grids and make sense. I live in NY now, again for the Navy and the roads are better, but not by much. At least you can make left turns in most places in NY without having to drive 10 blocks around the bend like you have to in NJ. I can't wait to get back to the West Coast. Mike |

Ah, our roads... they are how we test the mettle (and metal) of visiting riders and drivers. If you can successfully navigate NJ roads and survive, you can ride/drive anywhere on the planet. HTFU before we revoke your NJ Visitor visa and escort you to the stateline. |

I once rode through NJ and had to stop for a quart of oil at a Mobil station. The most rude assholes on the planet. Any trip northeast for me will add many miles to avoid the place. Never, ever again. |

I escaped from that Pit over 20 years ago and try never to go back. The rush hour traffic on the Garbage State Parkway is just astonishing. Have you ever seen the bumper sticker, New Jersey Is For Masochists? |

Hey, I'm originally from NJ and don't remember it being that bad. But, then again, I haven't lived there in over 30 years and have no plans on going back. NJ does have great beefsteak tomatoes tho. |

>>>>I say we bulldoze the whole thing and build it right. I'm not even sure that would work . . . I moved here from Kansas where (Thank Ike) the first mile of Interstate was built and the road system if really pretty darn good even with the corruption and chicanery at K.D.O.T. New Jersey is a real dichotomy . . . within 50 miles of each other are some of the best and some of the worst roads in the United States. Having ridden Buells in 44 states New Jersey is both at the bottom and top of my list depending on where, within the state, you are talking about. |

My favorite thing about Jersey roads is the toll booths where the union guy reaches out of his window and pulls the ticket out of the machine (made for the driver, at window level) and hands you the ticket. On the other big highway going north/south you stop every 1.5 miles to throw 35 cents into the bucket. You want gas? The gas pump attendant has to pump it for you. No self serve gas stations in Jersey. You need special training to pump gas safely. This must have something to do with organized labor. Then you have the jug handles mentioned above. Great idea. If it worked at least one of the other 49 states would use them. Jersey is a very strange state, but I love the people. They will tell you exactly what they are thinking, no filter whatsoever. Once you get used to it it can be fun, and always amusing. People are asses to strangers, but once they know you they are seriously fun to hang out with. You just need thick skin. |

Heh, i dont think about it much as this is the only state that i have lived in. I do however dislike northern NJ, and try to avoid it if possible. It really depends on where you are in the state... i live by the "shore", north jersey does smell (refineries and dumps) and is congested, south jersey has farmland and open space. I have to say any time i drive out of NJ it is a stress free drive.... no one attached to your back bumper. Mike |

>>>>>north jersey does smell (refineries and dumps) and is congested, That's pretty much the 1-9 corridor and the area within a 10 mile radius of Elizabeth that they show on the opening of the Soprano's. . . . that ares TRULY is the armpit of the US. The good news is that 30 minutes South, West or North and you can be in some absolute premiere riding. The forrest of Southern New Jersey are incredible. |

Odalloy, HTFU is the best advise anyone could give. Thank you. Come to think of it, thats great advise for just about any situation. Brumbear, I'm staying in Mahwah and the job I'm working is outside of Patterson. That is a really bad place to run out of gas, don't ask me how I know. Slipknot, you must not have spent enough time here, I met a lot of really cool people here the past couple weeks. I even met this hooligan that goes by the alias "Skinstains" back in October, he seems to be O.K. too. |

My father in law was born and raised in New Jersey. It scared the crap out of me to ride in the car with him. The only thing that even remotely resembles my fil’s driving would be Sherman’s march to the sea. He drove this land cruiser of a Buick for years, a big mid 60’s Electra 225. It was bigger than my house. He’d slalom between the other cars always going 15 or 20 over the limit, leaving a trail of profanity everywhere he drove. All I can say it that I never experienced anything like it before or since. I give thanks for that. My girl friend who later became my wife and soon to be ex broke his turn signals and he didn’t find out for over two years. (true story) I AM NEVER GOING TO NEW JERSEY! |
