I looked at some old threads but I was hoping to get more current rates after Uly's have been in circulation for awhile. What are people paying for insurance? I bought my Uly a few weeks ago and bought insurance through Progressive for $331/year with $500 deductibles on collision/comprehensive. Is this about standard?...24 yr old male, married, good driving record. It seems a bit high compared to my Sportster which was $198/year. Especially considering the price of replacement parts for a Harley vs. that of a Buell. |

Actually, that looks pretty darn good. I'm pushing 40 and Progressive didn't even do that good for me (but I elected to take the lower deductible). |

Where you live makes a HUGE difference. When I moved from Ames, Iowa to Mesa, Arizona, I my insurance rate doubled. A year later, when I moved two miles, from Mesa to Phoenix, the rate went up another 15%. 10 years later, I moved 10 miles south, to Chandler, and my rates dropped 30%. Mark in Arizona |

Mark, good point. I didn't think about location. I'm here in the flatlands of Illinois which is probably comparable to Iowa's rates. Johnboy, That makes me feel better to know someone is paying roughly what I am. In any case, it's a small price to pay for being able to ride such an amazing piece of machinery eh? |

What got me on State Farm in the first place, was the husband of one of our office girls. He was a freelance insurance adjuster and when I asked him one day which insurance company paid their claims promptly and gave the best service to their policyholders, he mentioned State Farm and one or two others, as I recall. The wife, kids and I have had a few accidents over the years, and couldn't be happier with my vehicle insurance provider. Money shouldn't be the only deciding factor here. All insurance companies are not created equal. Problem is, you may only realize that, once you need it. John |

I had State Farm Insurance for about two weeks. The agent gave me a good rate for the 600 Ninja I had just bought. I decided to switch over my car at the same time as he gave me a better rate with both insured. He wanted to know if I or my wife had any tickets and I replied that I had none and the wife had one speeding ticket (he said "no problem"). A week after I started my policy, I was informed by letter that I was being canceled because my wife had one speeding ticket in her car (doesn't even ride my bike or drive my car). I had to go back to my original carrier, but since I had left for a 2 weeks, now I was considered a new client!!! Couldn't pay me enough to ever consider State Farm as a carrier on anything I own. Makes me ill to think about what that crumby decision to switch to State Farm cost me in cold hard cash. I've had excellent luck with both American Family (on the cars in particular) and Progressive (on the bikes). I know people that haven't been happy with American Family but haven't heard any complaints about Progressive. |

I've had similar bad service from State Farce. We used to have our house, her car, my truck and bike all through S.F. She got rear ended(obviously not her fault) and they dropped her coverage. There were injuries, and she was pregnant at the time. This agent we delt with.....not only our agent but her parents as well, for everything. Well guess what, they lost a LOT of business for that decision. Had another bad experience with one of my first cars. Will never use them again, for anything. Like a good neighbor? Like hell, like an abusive, thieving, cheating, lying neighbor. If I had neighbors like that I'm putting up the contina wire and loading up my guns. I pay 500 and change for full coverage on my Uly in NY, 75 for basic liability on an older UJM. I think it's Progressive, but I'd have to check. I don't shop carriers, I have an independant agent that gets me exactly what I need for what I want to pay. I expect this to go down a bit as it was a new policy when I picked up the Uly last spring. My previous company tried to jack me for $1500 for the Uly, I sent 'em packin'. |

I guess there is no 'standard' to speak of as far as rates. It varies greatly depending on each person's circumstances. One thing I like about my Progressive policy is that it includes $3000 in accessory coverage for no additional cost. Considering how fast farkles add up, it gives me a little piece of mind knowing that they're all covered. |

Live in NC and pay $507 a year for my 06 Uly. Switched to Gieco from Progressive when my wife started riding. Progressive wouldn't give a discount for the MSF class she took and her rates were twice mine with them! What's up with not giving an MSF class discount? |

great thread FWIW, called my agent just now, my policy is $250 deductible (comp & coll) and my liability coverage is 100k each person/ 300k each accident...property damage 50k each accident. Oh yeah, $344 per year - not $332. EDIT and no medical, btw. . (Message edited by johnboy777 on February 04, 2009) |

I use Dairyland for both of my bikes, and it's pretty cheap. They also give me a winter discount, which is good, (and something you would probably use a lot more than me). I don't know what I pay, off the top of my head, but when I get home I'll look. |

One thing I did discover in talking with the Dairlyland representative was that they classified the Ulysses as a sportbike. I find that my '07 Ulysses cost me double what it costs me for my new '09 BMW RT for identical coverage and when I inquired they told me that was because they classified the Ulysses as a sportbike. I'm sure that has something to do with the rates. Wayne |

Yes, very interesting. USAA charges me $431 for my Uly and $224 for my H-D Street Bob, but as I look at it, I've got some heavy duty coverage. Eh, pay to play...and I've found USAA to be a great company to deal with on all things, from my mortgage, insurance, loans, etc. |

Ok, I just looked, and I pay $392 a year for both bikes through Dairyland. The Uly is $289.90 and the KLX is $98.80. I'm a 35-y.o. married male, and I have the rider course discount, a winter discount, and a multi-cycle discount. I've got $500 deductible, up to $5000 coverage on optional equipment, rental reimbursement, $50 towing and road service, and a bunch of other things. It's a good policy, and the roadside assistance is called "Excursion Diversion" - if I get stuck in the mud again, I can call them to get me out, for $50. Not bad. |

I wish they offered that to me, all I was able to get was $1k. Worst part is, after my Uly wrecked I got shafted as my bike left the dealer with $2k in accessories, so I didn't have anything to cover my gear. |

After getting quotes in the $500-$800 range, the salesman at Simi Valley H-D Buell (Calif) found a lower rate through Safeco, $269 per year, 54 year old male rider. |
