Very cool a track only 1.5 hours away. Someone should send Buell the info to see if they can add it to the 2009 Inside Pass schedule. |

Not sure if Al is gonna post the SCAB ride info for this Saturdays ride so here it is. This Starbucks we will meet at. Kickstands up at 10:00 AM, get there earlier if you want to grab a cup of coffee before we ride. Be gassed and ready to go. 3931 Artesia Blvd, Torrance, CA (310) 371-4442 Link: <0%2C9.297696800011548,http://maps.google.com/maps? f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=coffee&sll=33.859297,-118.325 5&sspn=0.051817,0.076904&dirflg=h&ie=utf8&ll=3.872 126,-118.341808&spn=0,359.923096&z=14&iwloc=j&laye r=c&cbll=33.872899,-118.342897&panoid=_uggj7w_srmd li6lttqmyq&cbp=12,342.97594042428693,,0,9.29769680 0011548> Eric has put together some route info that I need to digest, will send that out in a day or so. Not sure Brian maybe Al or Eric will pop in. I seem to remember at last months SCAB meeting that subject came up and most did not want to run PCH through Malibu at a slow speed so PCH might be out for the trip from Torrance. |

Eric sent me some maps at work the other day, we changed some things and I think there is probably a new version waiting for me when I get to work today. I'll send it out this evening. The general gist is that we're going to slab it on the 101 most of the way to the coast at Port Hueneme, and then do Mulholland and such coming back. We're going to do ALL of Mulholland, all the way back east. There is some historical info on the section of Mulholland east of the 405 that Eric is hunting up that I'll post later today. Brian, Asbjorn wanted to meet further north as well. There is a Shell just off the 101 at 17654 Burbank Blvd, here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=33.872963,-118.343021&daddr=&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=19&sll=33.872974,-118.342897&sspn=0.001664,0.001851&ie=UTF8&ll=34.172053,-118.518164&spn=0.001711,0.001851&t=h&z=19 According to googlemaps, it's about 1/2 hour from the starbucks to there, but traffic can add to that. I'll call one of you just before we leave the Starbucks meeting point. Stay tuned for one more email to the SCAB list this evening. Al (Message edited by al_lighton on January 02, 2009) |

Alert: Just got off the phone with Eric, and he and I made the executive decision to push the ride out a week. Its COLD in Malibu today, and not supposed to be much warmer tomorrow. We did last years Malibu ride in the fog, and it wasn't much fun. You can't attack the twisties if you can't see, and constantly wiping your face shield from driving through the fog isn't particularly safe in the corners. The current 10 day forecast shows next weekend being 10 degrees warmer and sunny. Same plan, delayed by ONE WEEK. Sorry for the late notice. I hope everyone can still attend. Yes, Eric and I are wimps. Al |

I'll see if I can get some tires on one of my bikes in time to meet you all next week down at the Rock Store. Cycle Gear had their New Years Day 25% off sale and I ordered up two sets of Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires since both my Firebolt and 1125R street tires are shot. I didn't want to spend the money right now, but it saved me about $170.00 dollars on the normal price for two pair. Al, I seem to have fallen off your e-mail list for rides. If you can e-mail me for future events it's b.matthew@gte.net. |

Last minute updates on the SCAB ride tomorrow (Sat. 9th) Eric and I are still learning the ins and outs of good googlemapping. I’ve made some updates based on some flaws in the first maps, and split it up. If they get too big, the links get clunky, and it takes forever for googlemaps to rebuild the routes. The meeting places have not changed. We're still meeting at the Starbucks, kickstands up 10AM, then a brief stop at a shell station along 101 at 10:30 for topping off tanks. We fixed some stuff (dirt and closed roads, loopbacks), and added some new fun stuff just after the Rock store. Here is the first part of the map. It gets us from the Starbucks meeting point to the Rock Store in time for lunch: Driving directions To: The Rock Store 30354 Mulholland Hwy, Agoura Hills, CA 91301 80.8 mi – about 2 hours 15 mins (up to 3 hours 30 mins in traffic) From: Starbucks, 3931 Artesia Blvd Torrance, CA 90504 http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=3931+Artesia +Blvd+Torrance,+CA+90504&daddr=17654+Burbank+Blvd. ,+Encino,+CA+to:CA-23%2FS+Westlake+Blvd+to:Mulholl and+Hwy+to:Little+Sycamore+Canyon+Rd+to:Yerba+Buen a+Rd+to:Yerba+Buena+Rd+to:CA-1+to:Mulholland+Hwy+t o:Mulholland+Hwy+to:30354+Mulholland+Hwy,+Cornell, +CA&hl=en&geocode=%3B%3BFSYfCQId3s_q-A%3BFbYmCAIdL iDq-A%3BFRsqCAIdcQbq-A%3BFZNxCAIdNcnp-A%3BFUgsCAId BAHp-A%3BFZibBwIdDsbo-A%3BFQ5_BwIdwTHp-A%3BFfAlCAI dZwLq-A%3B&mra=ls&sll=34.023315,-118.654065&sspn=0 .877542,0.947571&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=10 Here is the second part, from the Rock Store to where the ride ends at the intersection of Mulholland and 101. Added some fun stuff to this section and took us off of Sepulveda et al. Driving directions To: 101 and Woodrow Wilson Dr 53.1 mi – about 2 hours 5 mins Via Mulholland Raceway/Schueren Rd, Mulholland Dr From: 30354 Mulholland Hwy Agoura Hills, CA 91301 http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=30354+Mulhol land+Hwy,+Cornell,+CA&daddr=Lake+Vista+Dr+to:Mulho lland+Hwy+to:Cold+Canyon+Rd%2FMulholland+Raceway+t o:Mulholland+Raceway%2FPiuma+Rd+to:Mulholland+Race way%2FSchueren+Rd+to:Mulholland+Raceway%2FStunt+Rd +to:Mulholland+Hwy+to:Mulholland+Dr+to:CA-27%2FTop anga+Canyon+Blvd+to:Ventura+Blvd+to:Hayvenhurst+Av e+to:Mulholland+Dr+to:Mulholland+Dr+to:Mulholland+ Dr+to:Mulholland+Dr+to:34.120012,-118.350306+to:Wo odrow+Wilson+Dr&hl=en&geocode=%3BFdBwCAId0t_r-A%3B FbuGCAIdtwTs-A%3BFVpFCAIdGibt-A%3BFSz5BwIdYvLs-A%3 BFcnuBwIdwJjt-A%3BFYcICAIdgpbt-A%3BFRFfCAIda2Pt-A% 3BFVATCQIdsCLu-A%3BFWwhCQIdqznu-A%3BFZheCQIdgDvu-A %3BFRYyCQIda_Pv-A%3BFV7JCAIdHs7v-A%3BFULHCAIddCLw- A%3BFcLOCAId8sXw-A%3BFTuxCAIdp77x-A%3B%3BFbKsCAIdW j3y-A&mra=dpe&mrcr=14&mrsp=16&sz=15&via=5,16&sll=3 4.121717,-118.349748&sspn=0.027392,0.029612&ie=UTF 8&ll=34.121717,-118.349748&spn=0.876517,0.947571&t =h&z=10 I have no idea what time it’ll be when we hit 101. But if there is someplace that we should go from there, figure it out and present it at lunch. Eric has some Mulholland history to tell us over lunch. I’m bringing some small sized but good raffle goodies, bring your 5 and 10 dollar bills! Sorry for the late notice. I sent it out to the SCAB mail list earlier this evening. "Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?" Weather was nice, we had 17(?) people on the ride, roads were good, though slightly too littered with roadside rock and sand debris in several places. Unfortunately, Elliot, a friend of Nick on a VFR, dumped his bike on Yerba Buena road. Overall, he was OK, but he may have broken his right shoulder/rotator cuff. Life's gonna suck for a few days for him, and the bike needs a LOT of TLC to fix, mostly just body work. Afterwards, we did most of the planned ride, but had to cut the Hollywood hills section of Mulholland due to time constraints. With the Santa Ana conditions, the views from up over Malibu were fabulous, and the weather was quite warm. It's good we waited a week. Al |

The February SCAB meeting is at Knowlwoods at 7:30 on Wednesday, February 4th (tomorrow). Knowlwoods is in the shopping center in the NW corner of Imperial Hwy and La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda, here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=33.86 1124,-117.790934&spn=0.001768,0.001896&t=h&z=19 I’ll be driving up in the car from the shop, so if anyone wants to ride up, just let me know and plan on being at the shop at about 6PM or so. How many dirtbikers do we have in our midst? Eric and I have talked about going to Ocotillo in the next few weeks, but haven’t set a date. If there are others that are interested in going out to ride, or even just to camp overnight there, ping me. See ya’ll tomorrow. Al |

Doing anything Sunday March 8th? How about going on a poker run? It's Pasadena MC's 100th year in existence and they're putting on a poker run as usual. This has gotta be a reason to celebrate! PMC always puts on a great poker run and this is an AMA points event for those into that ditty. flyer: PMC poker run 2009 (Message edited by sparky on February 19, 2009) |

SCAB ride details for this saturday: We start the ride at the gas station in front of the Pechanga Casino in Temecula, here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&g eocode=&q=temecula,+ca&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn =49.176833,76.816406&ie=UTF8&ll=33.454328,-117.101 598&spn=0.000797,0.001172&t=h&z=20 Please arrive between 9 and 9:30AM, kickstands up at 9:30. So get there BEFORE 9:30 so you can gas up. We're gonna stop up a Mothers Kitchen up on Palomar for a bit, and it isn't that far away. So if you want to wait to get your coffee there (more on that in a moment), show up just long enough to gas up. From there, we'll drop down Pala Pechenga Rd down to 76, and head towards Palomar. Part way there, we'll stop at Nate Harrison Grade Road. Those on Ulys, or those just feeling adventuresome on their 1125R will take a left on Harrison Grade Road. The other group that wants to zip up the twisty side of Mt. Palomar will continue on 76 up to the South Grade turnoff. We'll race to Mothers Kitchen to see who buys the coffee. I'm kidding. After Re-grouping at to top, we'll take the east grade down to 76, then 79, the S2 and S22 down to Borrego Springs. When we get down to Borrego springs, we'll have lunch. If we're kinda early for lunch, we'll go back up and down Montezuma Valley grade once before eating. Going down is good, but going up is great. After lunch, we'll head over to 78 via Yaqui Pass, head up Banner grade to Wynola Road, and then turn back towards Julian to do the Engineer road downhill coast to Lake Cuyamaca. From there, we'll loop back through Julian and down 78 to Santa Ysabel. Orange and LA bound folks will start heading towards home on 79, either backtracking on 76 towards Palomar, or just 79 all the way to 15.South San Diego folks will likely cut back on 78 at that point. Depending on the time, us North San Diego folks may cut back and do Mesa Grande road over the Hideout before heading west on 76. Here's the main route: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=P ala+Rd%2FPala+Temecula+Rd%2FPechanga+Pkwy&daddr=Pa la+Mission+Rd+to:CA-76+to:Boucher+Lookout+Rd%2FSta te+Park+Rd+to:E+Grade+Rd%2FS7+to:Palm+Canyon+Dr%2F S22+to:Wynola+Rd+to:Wynola+Rd+to:Wynola+Rd+to:CA-7 8%2FCA-79%2FJulian+Rd+to:Pine+Hills+Rd+to:Engineer s+Rd+to:CA-79+to:33.109283,-116.673968&hl=en&geoco de=FX97_gEdBisF-Q%3BFWAc_QEdlJ8F-Q%3BFRFc_AEdRt0G- Q%3BFT1U_AEdIccI-Q%3BFYIr_AEd1AgJ-Q%3BFXB0-wEdwD4Q -Q%3BFVYH-QEdfOkM-Q%3BFbUF-QEdbX8M-Q%3BFez6-AEdsh8 M-Q%3BFXK7-AEd1I8M-Q%3BFfRy-AEduIgM-Q%3BFdGc9wEdV8 cM-Q%3BFfZp9wEdHAoN-Q%3B&mra=mi&mrcr=6&mrsp=13&sz= 16&via=1,4,6,7,10,11&sll=33.109193,-116.673903&ssp n=0.012797,0.018754&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16 Here's Nate Harrison Grade Road for the Uly riders: I've never done it before, but I think much is unpaved: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=C A-76&daddr=33.328664,-116.963196+to:Boucher+Lookou t+Rd%2FState+Park+Rd+to:Canfield+Rd&geocode=FfZb_A EdWt0G-Q%3B%3BFcqF_AEdF1AI-Q%3BFTpU_AEdWscI-Q&hl=e n&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=14&via=1,2&sll=33.32393 ,-116.969376&sspn=0.055438,0.083857&ie=UTF8&ll=33. 333684,-116.916676&spn=0.110864,0.167713&t=h&z=13 San Diego folks: If you want to meet us there, we'll leave Biggs San Marcos at 8:00 AM sharp, already gassed.
