We finally got a decent day (40 F) where I could install my new Firebolt Custom Seat. I'm not all that pleased. I bought the seat used on this site and it's in pretty good condition. This is the first time I've taken the seat off, and also the first time I've noticed a truly poor design on this bike. Everything else is quality, but this is an afterthought. Also it left a gap on the right side between the seat and the airbox that was never there before. The thing that may bother me the most though- the seat isn't all that comfortable. Sure, it's a lot thicker and better made than the stock one, but it's hard as a rock. I only rode for about 20 min around town, so maybe on longer rides it forms to your butt, but it felt like I was sitting on a phonebook. The good news is this is the first time I've had the bike out since I got the headlight recall done, and I just realized both lights stay on with the high beam on now! Works for me! | ||

I had the custom seat on my first XB and hated the feel also. | ||

When I first installed my custom seat I felt the same. After some 2,000 miles I now love the seat and could not go back to the paper thin stock one. I also like the fact that it raised my can up about an inch or so and helped out my bad knees in the process. | ||

Too soft a seat is no good for any substantial "seat time". I have a Corbin on my Bolt and will never go back to stock. | ||

Make sure you clip the front of the seat in correctly or you will have gaps in the front. The custom is one of the best mods I have done to the bike. 1000 times better than the stock seat. What is the design flaw that you noticed when you took the seat off the bike? | ||

I agree with ya Jim. After getting the custom seat, I wished it was the first thing I did. I had a corbin and didn't like it. I guess we all have are own opinions. | ||

The design flaw is how you remove the seat. It's not so bad taking the stock one off cause it bends so well, but the custom seat was so thick it was really difficult to reach those bolts. | ||

Niner, get it done locally, have them replace the padding with gel. You have lots of options if your not vertically challenged such as myself. | ||

How close is the custom seat to the Corbin? I'm thinking of upgrading, in order to do some longer trips, but I've never even seen either the custom or Corbin seats. | ||

get the corbin you can get many different options on the cover instead of looking like all the cookie cutter seats. | ||

I have a corbin as well and I love it. I do have the custom pillion, and my passengers like it better than the stock one. | ||

I just picked up a card from anthonyscustomcycles.com. They appear to do a little bit of everything. I talked with him at a bike show in my area this past weekend. To rewrap my seat with a different fabric, install memory foam and also stitch a Buell patch into the fabric of the seat as well would cost me $175. Seems like a good deal. The seats he had on display were bad ass. | ||

Regarding the Corbin seat: How the hell did you get it to fit?? The rear mounting brackets are about a half inch too far back from the mounting holes in the frame. Since the Corbin seat pan has NO flex whatsoever, I can only figure they expect you to drill new holes in the subframe!! | ||

My corbin fit fine with the original mount brackets and also with the replacement brackets that were sent out because the original rubbed on the battery cables. If yours doesn't fit properly you may need to contact corbin about it. | ||

Did you by any chance get your Corbin through Al at American Sport Bike? If so Al is a champ at getting their attention and making your order RIGHT. Kind of like the retrofit seat brackets on the firebolt seats, Al and Joanne handled all the BS and paperwork for their customers and shipped the new parts out to them. They did it at no charge, even if you'd bought the seat years before. Customer service does not end at the sale with them. Sorry, I didn't intend for this post to be a commercial, just trying to help you if you did get the seat from American Sport Bike. | ||
