We just got the second X-1 in 2 months here with a Forcewinder on it and whoever installed the darn thing left off the carb bracket that holds the whole thing on the bike. This one came to us after being at a dealer for eons with ill running issues. I pulled the gas tank and was checking FI connectors when I saw the screw holding the injectors down was missing and the rear injector was unseated and just kind of sitting in its hole. Bet that made it run good. Betting the vibration from having no hold down bracket shook the screw out. Re-installed and it sure runs better. Note to all -- that bracket is not meant to be deleted. He's lucky he did not have the whole thing come off and dangle in the wind. On another note, we just tuned a 2008 ZX-10 Kawi, full Leo Vinci system and a PC3, made 183 coming in and 193.9 leaving. Over 60 ft lbs from 6000- 12,000 rpm. Damn!! |

The crappy instructions that came with mine said specifically to take it off. I of course ignored this idiocy. |

I left the throttle body bracket on my 2000 X1 when installing the FW. The '02 X1 I just bought had the bracket plus a spacer about 1/4" thick between the FW and the bracket. I don't know if it has a function but I like seeing polished aluminum so I think I'll leave it on. |

I had a 99 X1 and the retarded air box design would not seal. I think there was a screw every lineal foot and the whole thing warped from heat. I could put my hand over the inlet hole and the idle didn't even change. None of the air was going through the filter. I threw the filter in the trash and cut the plastic J-tube that was inside the airbox and put a universal K&N on it. I mounted the IAT in the plastic tube. The flange on the plastic J shaped tube was also very warped from heat, so I understand why the metal forcewinder would be attractive, because at least it filters all of the air going into the motor. I just used a ton of RTV where the J tube bolted up the throttle body and shipped it. Worked fine and it's ugliness was hidden underneath the non-functioning stock bread box. One of the guys in our Buell club let me ride his ZX10R at the track. It was too much for me to deal with when leaned over. Just cracking the throttle it put out more power than my XB WFO. I was constantly scared that I was just going to light up the rear and high-side. I was damn happy to be back on the XB. However, on the straights the bike was awesome, just sick. That shit is for younger guys than me. |
