Yo Ulyranger...they're fantastic people. The co-owner of the company rides a Uly and lurks on BadWeb, which is how they heard of my predicament...having the bar ends saved the grips (though, it was a serious enough accident that the handlebars were replaced). My mistake was not ALSO installing the Darkhorsemoto fork/frame sliders before I tripped over Bambi's daddy...not sure it would have saved me a fork replacement, but the fact that none of us are immune from freak accidents stays with me. A low-speed lay-down on gravel or salt would make them worth it. Coming up on the anniversary of my deer strike...still feeling a bit creeped out by it and by coming out of it basically unscathed.

I have ridden with the HVMP guy a few times. Other than he has more bikes than me and it makes me jealous, he is a stand up guy. Oh, and the bar ends are pretty sweet too. (Message edited by Froggy on January 24, 2009) |

I have ridden the the HVMP guy a few times. Uh, Froggy; you might want to edit your post. However, I agree with your statement that Steve is a stand up guy. |

Wait a minute, both Dr_greg and Hooper have HVMP bar ends and they hit deer? Maybe the bar ends attract deer! Seriously, glad to see you getting back on the road Dr_greg. |

I saw Nickcaro today, he is the guy I bought it off of, the look on his face was priceless! (New pics to come soon) Hugh, you might be on to something, I had more close calls with deer this year with the bar ends! |

why is the front end of the ECM held in with a zip tie? I assume the previous owner had to unbolt it to install the "heat shield" and---instead of trying to reinstall the ECM mounting bolts (impossible) simply zip-tied it. The electrons shouldn't know the difference... --Doc |

Ah. The angle of the pic didn't show if the ECM was displaced by the heat shield. I'd just be hesitant to have a PCB rattling around like that is all... |

DIPSTICK THERMOMETER You may recall that my new '06 Uly came with a "dipstick thermometer" installed...I finally decided to take a look at it. Well, this is what it looks like "inside"...I'm not all that impressed! Probably isn't that accurate due to its short length, but it's not really doing any harm (i.e. doesn't leak), so I'll leave it. --Doc P.S. Over the weekend I fabricated an "unusual" bazootie...it'll be finished Monday night and I'll post a pic. |

I stuck one of those things into a big chicken thigh in my oven last night...perfectly juicy and perfectly cooked. Mmmmmm...hope it works the same for your motor oil. |

Doc; if you're going to run a dipstick thermometer, you should get one of Craig's (Electraglider1997). He does it right. |

IIRC WW Grainger caries 8 inch stick thermometers which would reach a little (2 inches) deeper, and graingers stores are everywhere. |

http://www.darkhorsemoto.com/html/otgf_0.html I use that one and it is put together way nicer than that one you have Dr. Greg. I like it a little peace of mind that the Uly is running at the right temp |
