Ride with Dave Barr Dave Barr, a double amputee veteran who rides, is organizing a contingent of riders departing from the Vietnam Memorial (The Wall) in Washington D.C. and ride across the country in a show of patriotism and honor. He and his group will be riding through the following states and all riders are welcome. Virginia West Virginia Pennsylvania Ohio Indiana Illinois Missouri Kansas Colorado Utah Nevada California Schedule Day 1 — 28th, Aug. DC. To Washington, PA. 243 miles. via I-270 to I-68 to I-79. To Prim NV. 344 miles via I-70 & I-15. Day 8 — 4th Sept., Prim NV. To Oceanside, CA. 260 miles via I-15. __________________________________________ Folks I've been asked to help in the preparation and organizing of this event. Not such an honor has been bestowed on this rider since joining Team Elves and helping with Alex's Ride Across North America. There will be many ways to participate in this event even if you can't ride. Direct donations can be made via the Honor Run website. Calendars and T-shirts will be available in the near future. You can also purchase a flag to be flown along the freeway to Camp Pendleton for a measly twenty bucks and for an additional $6.95 they will ship you the flag after the run. There are several BadWeBbers already committed for legs of the run. This is for our heroes that defend our freedom. Let's show them what BadWeB is all about. Wolfridgerider, Yeah US50 has some mighty fine sections through VA, WV & Southern OH... hell even Indiana has some nice sections. Hope to see you there! --------------------------------- I believe Dave is taking I-70 for the access to services and dealerships that may host at the stop-overs. It'd be great to have, what seems to be, a large BWB contingent for the DC to Indy legs. While I'm not so crazy about the interstate or group riding I will put that aside for this cause. I've got several days of wind-down, touring time with Gentleman Jim planned after Sept. 5th as I start for home from California. I thinks he's going to pick up the Honor Run heading west around Denver. Is it August yet? JB2 |

Neil, shoulder's getting there, thx for asking, have ridden (short distances) several times in the last few weeks, should be good to go by the time Dave comes to town. Cool! That dude rocks! right on Rubberdown, indeed he does. i was introducing Dave to the riders gathered at one of the Cali stops during FBRAT, and enthused pretty enthusiastically to the group about who he is and the feats he has accomplished on two wheels. "Man, the stories this guy can tell!" i exclaimed. to which Dave, with hearty laugh and never missing a beat, proclaimed, "Yeah, if bullshit was music I'd have myself a brass band!" gotta love this guy. can't wait. is it August yet?!?!? I thought about putting her on notice, but you know how well that worked out last time. All joking aside the first two days is what I want to do too. We have friends in DC and family in Cincy. Plus the ride from Cincy to NC isn't bad either. |

Hey folks I just cross-posted this from the Storm Fronts page. Since there are several BadWeBers involved in this ride Mike was kind enough to add a link to BadWeB on The Honor Run links page. -------------------------------------------- Guys, Thank you for all your support. I am the Executive Director of the Honor Run. Dave and I are working side by side to insure that this ride is the largest single showing of honor and support to all who have served. I would like to share a little story with you concerning what motivates me. Two years ago my wife and I brought 900 widows and children of our fallen warriors out to Orange County for an all expense paid trip to Disneyland. We spent four wonderful days with these families. At one point a widow and her children came up to me with a gift. Her name was Deb May and her husband was SSGT Don May Jr. With tears streaming down her cheeks she reached out her hand to give me a Zippo lighter with the emblem of the Marine Corps, the words Semper Fi and a date inscribed upon it. She told me the lighter was a gift she had given her husband when he deployed and the date upon it was the date of his death. She went on to say it was the only personal item found on his body when they pulled him out the tank he had commanded. I told her I could not accept such a gift and she looked me dead in the eyes and said "You don't have a choice I need someone to carry my husband's flame so no one will ever forget why he died doing what he was doing" I keep that lighter on my desk and draw strength from it every day. I need all of you to help me keep my promise to the SSGT's widow and children, the promise that we will never forget. Please go to our website today and make a donation if you can. Please ride with Dave so we can really show everyone what patriotism is all about. You can reach me directly at mskcreative@cox.net Thank you again for all your support. Hey Guys, I just started a news blog on the website and posted a little something about your club. Please add yourself as a follower of the blog and feel free to post your comments. As to the question regarding the Patriot Guard, The PGR has signed on and the Honor Run is now a national mission for them. PGR members will be escorting Dave's gang across every state he rides through. Semper Fi Mike |

Oh just a quick housekeeping note. The ride will pass through Illinois and Utah. I somehow forgot to include them in the listing. Keep going to the web site to see all the cool stuff that is going on. Due to the high turn out in Nevada, estimated 1,000 riders through the state, we have changed the route a little on the last two days. It will travel from Salina UT to Mesquite NV and stop over night. The Casa Blanca Casino has offered to host a huge party and fund raising event for us. Just another sign that if you take supporting our troops to the street level amazing things happen. Final day of Dave's ride will be from the Casino to Oceanside where he will join up for the run up I-5 through the flags. One little story on the flag thing and then I will let you all alone for a bit. 2 years ago I tried to place 350 flags along this very same road and was told by the State of CA that if I did it I would be arrested. It really pissed me off so I went to the Highway Patrol and asked them if they actually would arrest me. They said not at first but about halfway into it they would have to because Caltrans would be all over them. So I went to the Marine Corps Camp Pendelton and got permission to place the flags 1 inch away on USMC property which began on the inside of the highway fence. It was outstanding and this time we intend on really letting CA know what patriotism is all about by planting 1,000 or more. Mike |

Mike, i've been out of town for a couple days and just now catching up on the Honor Run goings on. it's very, very cool to see your name here - welcome to BadWeB, and thank you for committment in honoring our country's servicemen and women, and for allowing all of us to be a small part of it. up until a couple of years ago we lived about ten minutes from Dave and Susan, and we've had them over to the house several times for bike-related get-togethers. he is, as you know, a quality human being, and it is indeed an honor for the good people of BadWeatherBikers to be a part of such an amazing and worthwhile adventure. thx again for taking the time to register here and post your views - your presence is very much welcomed here, and we're thrilled to help. best regards, Ferris & Denise |
