__________________________________________

Folks I've been asked to help in the preparation and organizing of this event. Not such an honor has been bestowed on this rider since joining Team Elves and helping with Alex's Ride Across North America. There will be many ways to participate in this event even if you can't ride. Direct donations can be made via the Honor Run website. Calendars and T-shirts will be available in the near future. You can also purchase a flag to be flown along the freeway to Camp Pendleton for a measly twenty bucks and for an additional $6.95 they will ship you the flag after the run.

There are several BadWeBbers already committed for legs of the run. This is for our heroes that defend our freedom. Let's show them what BadWeB is all about.

Jimmy:

Put me down for 10 flags. . . and I'm going to get the mailing addresses of Badweb members serving in the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS to send them to.

This is so cool . . . Dave is the embodiment of what my vision of America is.

Congratulations!

Can't wait!!! Dave is on my list of calls to make tomorrow morning. Need some reading material for the upcoming weeks.

Ferris and JB2im,
So glad you're involved in this, your enthusiasm and passion will greatly add to this already very very cool ride. You guys and all that you've done for me and gotten me involved with have made a lasting impact on my life.

I'll plan on riding the DC to Indy leg for sure, maybe more depending on how much I can get away with at work and with Heather.

This is WAY cool.

Guys,

Thank you for all your support. I am the Executive Director of the Honor Run. Dave and I are working side by side to insure that this ride is the largest single showing of honor and support to all who have served.

I would like to share a little story with you concerning what motivates me. Two years ago my wife and I brought 900 widows and children of our fallen warriors out to Orange County for an all expense paid trip to Disneyland. We spent four wonderful days with these families. At one point a widow and her children came up to me with a gift. Her name was Deb May and her husband was SSGT Don May Jr. With tears streaming down her cheeks she reached out her hand to give me a Zippo lighter with the emblem of the Marine Corps, the words Semper Fi and a date inscribed upon it. She told me the lighter was a gift she had given her husband when he deployed and the date upon it was the date of his death. She went on to say it was the only personal item found on his boday when they pulled him out the tank he had commanded. I told her I could not accept such a gift and she looked me dead in the eyes and said "You don't have a choice I need someone to carry my husbands flame so no one will ever forget why he died doing what he was doing" I keep that lighter on my desk and draw strength from it every day. I need all of you to help me keep my promise to the SSGT's widow and children, the promise that we will never forget. Please go to our website today and make a donation if you can. Please ride with Dave so we can really show everyone what patriotism is all about.

You can reach me directly at mskcreative@cox.net

Thank you again for all your support.

Semper Fi

"You don't have a choice I need someone to carry my husbands flame so no one will ever forget why he died doing what he was doing"

I've got chills and watery eyes from that one statement.

It will be great to watch this event grow into not only an epic adventure, but a salute to our armed forces that protect us and allow us our freedoms each day.

God Bless everyone involved and our military personnel and their families.

Mike, i've been out of town for a couple days and just now catching up on the Honor Run goings on.

it's very, very cool to see your name here - welcome to BadWeB, and thank you for committment in honoring our country's servicemen and women, and for allowing all of us to be a small part of it.

up until a couple of years ago we lived about ten minutes from Dave and Susan, and we've had them over to the house several times for bike-related get-togethers.

he is, as you know, a quality human being, and it is indeed an honor for the good people of BadWeatherBikers to be a part of such an amazing and worthwhile adventure.

thx again for taking the time to register here and post your views - your presence is very much welcomed here, and we're thrilled to help.

best regards,
Ferris & Denise

Bishopjb1124,

Hey I noticed you live in VA and that you might ride as far as Denver. Do you plan on going the entire distance? Get ahold of me as the time draws near. I think I'm going to do the whole ride. DC was my only questionable day but I've just about decided to take the extra time and ride there for the beginning.

It is great to be here with all of you and we really appreciate your help. If I could ask everyone to make and extra special effort this week to visit www.firstgiving.org/gratefulpatriot1 and purchase a flag it would be greatly appreciated. I have a meeting with a flag company and I can really drive down the price and maybe get the flags donated if I can show big numbers of individuals supporting the flag. You can also find the donation site on the run web site and simply click on fly the flag under the events button.

Thanks everyone for all your help

Mike

Hey Folks,

Mike is trying to finalize a tag-line for the run that will be used on the t-shirts, calendars and other promotional items. He asked if we might offer an opinion. His two choices currently are:

"When a Soldier Falls, We Thunder!"

"When a Soldier Falls, We Roar"

You can post your vote here or e-mail Mike directly. His contact e-mail is listed above in his post.

Thanks, JB2

"Standing for the Fallen"
"Riding the freedom they fell to protect"
"Many standing with a fallen few"

Otherwise, I would vote for thunder over roar. I'm much more interested in what God has to say through me (which is the picture Thunder paints) then I am in anything I would have to say (which would be Roar).

And a little more playfully for those of us that put our stock exhausts back on because we are getting old and our ears hurt and we didn't want to wake the neighbors baby when we leave for work at 6 am...

"Loud lives save pipes" ; )

Reep,

You gotta way with words. : ) That's cool and I really like Ferris's idea a LOT but I just received an e-mail from Mike. Since he "had" to make a decision fast he went with the "We Thunder" version the two they had narrowed it down to. I have to agree with you that I like it the best of the two choices.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions and help. We have determined the tag line to be When a Soldier Falls, We Thunder it seem to best encompass what we are trying to convey which really is that we will never forget what these heroes have done in defense of our freedom. It also sends a clear message to those who oppose us that when you harm one of our own we pull together as one.

Very busy day today I may be able to put out very good news concerning Harley Davidson Corp. support of this effort even in light of their current financial condition. Keep you fingers crossed this is a battle I have been fighting for some time now and all your support has really made a difference.

The plan for the return trip is kind of up to each individual group. Certainly there will be many people headed back to your neck of the woods. If you have the time and feel like heading east a Group will be riding to the 9/11 Remembrance as part of this run. That leg will be announced next week.

from The Honor Run news blog, Saturday, January 24, 2009:

OAKLEY SUPPORT FOR THE HONOR RUN

"We are pleased to announce that, due to the overwhelming interest in the Honor Run, we have changed the end point of the ride to the Oakley Corporation's world headquarters in Foothill Ranch, California. Oakley was kind enough to allow us to use their parking lots to stage a celebration that is shaping up to be second to none."

Jimmy,

Hey, on the 6th I will be heading north before heading back east. Wasn't there a rock band named "Head East"? : ) At any rate, I'll be riding with Gentleman Jim and hope to hook up with Dino on the return trip. I need to be home by the 13th of September. Drop me a line off board if you're interested, we can ride back together as far as Indiana. I think it'll be really cool to have at least two BadWeBbers doing the entire trip from the Wall to Camp Pendleton.

Bueller- need to get addresses squared away billing wise before I throw my donation in, but put me up for $100. Have you given any more thought to what we were talking about before the chili cookoff re sponsorship? I'll cover half.
