I bought a used 05 XB12 that had a jardine muffler and race ecm installed. I noticed the muffler valve module is still connected and in-tact on top of the air box. Is it ok to to unplug and remove this or do I need a TPS reset when I do this.

I have a Drummer and was told to leave the module attatched so the check engine light wouldn't come on. But I would recomend asking somebody who knows more than me. I left mine on and 100 or so miles later no probs.

If it has a race ECM it shouldn't be plugged in anyways. It not recognizing its there anyhow. If you get a check engine light. Then you do no have a race ECM. Most race ECM's were marked that they are.

Ive never had a check engine light. I guess I'll just have to try it out.

If you don't have a race ECM and don't want the check engine light to constantly be on after you unhook it you would need to install one of these:

I have one on my bike and have never had a problem with it.

I just left my on so I could go back to the stock muffler if wanted

You can try the emulator and see - read posts where it didn't last 1,000 miles.

Or you could leave it on as is.

Or you could remove and use ECMSpy to turn off the Interactive Exhaust option so the ECM doesn't "look" for it.

I bought with the race ecm installed. The valve hardware is still on though.

Leave it there. The race ecm has one less wire which is in between the main connectors. This wire on the standard ecm controls the interactive exhaust valve. If you go back to a standard ecm and a non standard exhaust without the valve just leave the actuator in place and remove the cable(not the wiring).
