My 09 1125R has done about 200 miles so far and whilst in the dealer to check the LFL/CEL it was found that the ECU was commanding a tickover of 1490 which is outside the specified range. The IAC was commanding an IAC setting accordingly. The dealer's CR demonstrator which also has a low mileage also does the same thing, has anyone experienced this when their 1125s were new and did the tickover come down as the mileage increased on the bike. I am assuming that the ECU is commanding a higher tickover speed to reduce the possibility of a new/tight engine stalling. |

"Tickover" a British term that I believe means idle speed in rpm's hence the reference to 1490. Just a bit high from my 2008 1125R but not much. I think they moved it up slightly for better idle charging of the battery with an improved alternator. Also John, mine went up slightly with the last flash. Thanx I'll have to check the next time I start it. I can only start it and look at it because of all the snow here up north. Only 56 miles on the CR right now. |

My 2009 1125R displays an idle speed of 1500rpm on the tachometer once warmed up. That is the same as the demo model that I rode about a month ago. Both the 2009 owners manual and service manual specify an idle speed of 1250 rpm. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with what would appear to be a higher idle than original design. |

Thanks to all for the responses and yes tickover is the British term for idle, the reference comes from early Rolls Royce engines that had idled so slowly and quietly "that you could hear your watch ticking over" - old mechanical watch that is not the digital type. I must check the 1125R workshop manual but I am sure it lists idle speed as 1440 to 1480 rpm. |

From my owner's manual: Idle speed is monitored and controlled by the Electronic Control Module (ECM) and Idle Air Control (IAC) and is not adjustable. MODEL -- REGULAR IDLE 1125R -- 1250 RPM nominal |

Ponti1 you are correct but the HD diagnostic unit hooked up to the bike interogated the ECU and it is commanding an idle speed in excess of the stated range, not just on my bike either but on all other 09 bikes at the dealership so this is obviously done for a reason. |

I thought the higher than specified tickover was a by-product of the reflashes. I know my 25r idled closer to the specified number before all those reflashes. Just my .02 cents...refunds are now an approved congressional bailout. Btw I thought tickover came from the fact that you Couldn't hear your watch tick over the rear mains letting go...oh wait that was a Spitfire not a Rolls Royce. |

As I recall, the rpm went up with the "Battery Management" flash. The ECM can adjust idle rpm if alternator output drops. |

Rolls Royce Merlin and Griffin engines were used in Spitfires and also the Mustang fighter in WWII - thats what made it such a great aircraft after the original engine was dumped - bit like putting a Triumph engine in a Norton chassis. |

See this is what makes this forum what it is... I was referring to the Spitfire sports car. ...We start out talking about American motorcycles, take a rabbit trail to Rolls Royce engines in WWII aircraft and end up taking a trail to British sports cars.
