Hey does anyone know if the oil pump is already upgraded on this years model, And if not what is the part number for the new oil pump. I have the new oil pump drive gear and i was wondering if i should change pump as well, I have only 8500 miles on the bike but i dont want any problems, As i have read the gear can take out the motor,And i will do the pump if its not upgraded. |

Hey Bird the '01 is listed as having an improved oil pump in the FSM the scaveng side has greater capacity to help empty the sump IIRC the bronze gear is said to be a must, this I did. |

But bird, if you're talking about wanting to upgrade to the XB oil pump or whatever, then no, I don't believe it is. Buellistic will be here any minute letting you know, he knows the PN and everything. (Message edited by brinnutz on January 16, 2009) |

Depends upon which upgrade you're talking about... but your bike already has the improved pump. That change happened in '99. Pre-99's had the first generation of oil pumps that had a problem with oil scavenging at continuous high rpm conditions. Improved oil pump was installed post '99. Then a few years ago the XB had another oil pump which can be RETROFITTED to fit in your engine. You need to transfer your oil line fittings from the existing oil pump to the new XB style oil pump. The important thing to do is to change the oil pump drive gear to the alloy design if you are showing wear on it. |

BUELLERS: The last up-grade on the XB oil pump was to -02B, the "B" meaning the last up-grade ... If it does not have the "-B"(PN 26357-02B) the internals are the same as the -98(BUELL) or -91A(SPORTSTER) with XB oil line fittings ... What was up-graded was The GEROTOR SET(return and feed) on the "B" up-grade which allows faster return and more feed of the oil ... "SO", now you want to know what this means to your engine ... "WELL", if you ride in TRAFFIC or run you BUELL "HARD" these up-dated GEROTOR SETs not only provide better LUBRACATION to your engine, "BUT" also aid in using the oil to COOL your engine(returning to the oil tank faster) ... The reason the 2008 engines have a XBRR style oil pump is because the oil pump would look like a AFTERMARKET OIL PUMP(ie: ZIPPER's)as it was at it's limit ... DO NOT FORGET TO UP-GRADE YOUR "DRIVE GEAR,oil pump" to PN 26391-06 !!! (Message edited by buellistic on January 16, 2009) |
