Cityxslicker, somehow I dont think so. MB is a tourist town, no if ands or buts. If the bikers stay away someone else will take their place. Especially Memorial Day weekend. The bad part for them is that school isn't out yet so family vacations can'treally fill-in the gaps.
What I've been wondering about is, what will take MB's place? It may take a couple years to figure it out, but there is no way there isn't going to be a rally Memorial Day weekend from now on. I guess its going to depend on where the traveling circus of rally vendors start congregating.
One thing's for sure, the dragon's tail is always crowded on holiday weekends, but its going to be a mad house this year w/o anything in MB. |

The MB rallies combined bring in an estimated 20 million dollars over the month of May. That includes fines, tickets, arrest, and of course parking fees. Then add on to that the vendors fees etc.... sales.......food and alcohol.........motels......and the bar scene.
I personally have no problem with any of the resrictions except for the check points for exhaust Db noise levels. My understanding is a bike cannot be louder than 87Db at idle @ 3-7 FEET AWAY. Well hell, they'll make make up the lost revenue in tickets. Until next year and everyone boycotts it. How crowded will the court system be trying to keep up with the cases? WOW. Our CBA president went to the fall rally and said at certain stop points there are 4 police cruisers deep, if you stopped at the first one, you would most likely get stopped at the 4th one also, didn't matter. The 4th didn't see the 1st! |

MB is a tourist town. A tourist town with a definite ON SEASON. Both rallies are held during the OFF SEASON and inflate all rental property to ON SEASON fees which can be double the OFF SEASON. This move will hurt them. This is a big country and they are a small spot on a big beach with better looking places to go. As I said before, I will abide by their wishes and not go back. |

Same Idea,
We as the total collective of all licenced street motorcyclists if we dont step up and say no to the behaviour that is the second bike week we can expect more of the turn away,
My trip to daytona and the signs in the neighborhoods about noise and hours etc leeds me to think that the residents may take similar action in the future,
while no where near as rauccous as the MB week 2
I was on the main drag in a hotel room 4th floor and was routienly awakened by loud pipes and racing on that stretch of road over my stay there. not fun at 3:00 am
I can sympathize with the residents there
If it went on for 3 weeks then I can understand why
I have a "louder than stock bike" I also try to keep a lid on it while around the house and late at night,
I have never damaged another's property ( not counting the spidy stickers on the outer banks )
I have never failed to pay for a meal
or a room etc.
Every one here on this board likely fall into that category, but like speeding on the dragon, loud pipes, burn outs, wheelies
and a number of other actions by afew will cause issues for many
U4's description is just the highlights,
of the 2nd Bike week. I am sad to see this happen but I understand why and I belive here in is a cautionary.
Any clearer?

Oldog, i knew exactly what you were saying the first time, i just wanted to hear you elaborate some. 
agree, must be tough for the MB citizenry to deal with three straight weeks of the noise and chaos, particularly if you aren't a rider, and particularly if you don't derive any monetary gain from the unwashed masses (thd Harley riders, doncha know...) invading your town.
i hate to see stuff like this; it's likely to give other areas (Daytone, Laconia, Sturgis come immediately to mind) some bad ideas...
agree that the behavior of a few will often spoil it for the rest. Deals Gap is a prime example. too bad common sense ain't so common.
so what's the answer, my friend?

Ironically I received this last night:

We look forward to seeing all bikers for the 69th Annual Spring Bike Week (May 8-17) in Horry County (everywhere but the City of Myrtle Beach) in 2009.
The City of Myrtle Beach has initiated a media campaign designed to deter the good, law abiding motorcycle riders from coming to our area. The information being disseminated by the Grand Strand Chamber of Commerce and City of Myrtle Beach does not accurately portray the views of the people of Horry County. The majority of people and businesses look forward to you visiting and desperately rely on your visiting to make it through the year.
The last I checked, bikers aren't going to be intimidated. As always, if you come to our area and obey the laws and respect our community you have nothing to worry about. The City of Myrtle Beach can't stop you from visiting the other areas of Horry County. We are encouraged by the emails we are getting from people saying they are coming anyway. There is no reason for you not to come. As H-D says, "Screw It, Let's Ride!"
Furthermore, the City of Myrtle Beach has never played a role in bike week and has made it clear they don't want to play a role. In years past, over 90% of the events taking place were outside the limits of the City of Myrtle Beach. The new rules and regulations really WILL NOT affect your visit or any of the activities and events.

In reading other articles, this strategy allows the City of MB to do what ever they want because there is no bike week.
I cannot believe that most of the national chain restaurants closed during the bike week. Some really bad stuff musta been going on. I just can't believe the House of Blues, Damons and other name brand would just close their doors. |

I guess we [ I ] have to try to set a better example  notice I left out certain aborhent behaviours on my "I have never done" list you know wheel stands, burnouts etc.
As far as any one catching you misbehaving thats the operative phrase "Catch you"
Seriously a little thought about things like flipping off some oblivious clod who cuts us off, Your bike is not loud or "obnoxious" as mine. Because Mine is more so, I have to think about it and act accordingly monitoring speed and throttle in certain areas or at certain timess of day, the only thing I can change is how I act and what I do perhaps by setting a little better example for the uninformed who are watching and forming opinions I can make things better 
or at least not poison the well
My take on MYB rallie, I will spend my money else where like Carlos. Again He has hit the nail on the head.

Oldog, in all seriousness, if all the world set the same high-moral-fiber examples in life as you, this'd be a far, far better place, sir.
the goings on at MyB will be an interesting litmus test. it was pretty disheartening reading some of the public feedback in the second link Lost_in_Ohio posted above.
no surprise, really, but many non-riders out there figure anybody on a motorcycle is out to seriously harm them.
and, as Court is fond of saying, perception is reality.
i'm old enough to have had a lot of practice being cynical, and i'm afraid MyB's actions re: the bike weeks will spawn similar actions/reactions at other major moto-venues, as well.
