Hi - while I understand that the Supertrapp sound will vary according to how many discs are installed, could someone please give me a general idea how loud these two are compared to each other? Also, neither require re-packing, right? Thanks! |

The Buell race exhaust does require repacking. Buell even sold a kit for doing it. |

There are a couple of Buell race exhausts for that bike. The Buell one needs to be repacked. Supertrapp ended up building a Buell branded can for Buell. I'd go with that one. Much better build quality. The tubers were well known for destroying aftermarket exhaust systems. The most durable are the D&D and the Supertrapp-Buell one. Supertrapp also made a Supertrapp branded one, but other than the name it's the same can. Note that Supertrapp's first offering was POS, but was eventually replaced with the Buell-Supertrapp model. I have heard both the Trapp and the D&D side by side. The Trapp is not that loud, even with all the disks installed that it comes with. The D&D is quite a but louder, but not in a raspy way.

The Buell repackable can was also designed for use with the Buell race header. If you don't have the race header, that can will not work. The inlet on the can doesn't have the neck extension required to mate up with the stock pipe. The Supertrapp can will work with the stock header. |

I had a vance and hines carbon fiber re-packable one that my tuber ate for lunch in 1500 miles it made my bike a wheelie monster, I loved it it was so loud, Now i have the supertrapp and i hate it so. Im going to buy the d and d full exhaust have it ceramic coated wrinkle black. The supertrapp rear muffler clamp is junk throw it out and fab a 1/2" steel one it will be worth it trust me! |

Preybird1 You won't be disappointed with the full D&D kit. I sure like mine. I have yet to hear of one breaking. You will have to have the updated "Y" front exhaust hanger for it to mount up though. I think your 2001 may have come stock with it. Not sure what year that change took place. |

The Supertrapp also requires repacking. Over time (miles) the fibre glass will be burned or blown away. I really like my Supertrapp -- well engineered muffler that I use with the stock header. No broken hangers in 55k miles. Barry 2001 S3T |

I have a Buell-Supertrapp. With all disks (21?) I set off a car alarm in our parking lot. At what I think ended up with 6 disks it's slightly quieter but has a more ratty tone. There is an endcap that I did not have, and as of yet have not installed, that should make things more to my liking. I don't know of any fiberglass in the 'trapps. I thought it was a pure metallic disc system. |

The thing I really liked about the Supertrapp is the flexibility of noise output. Since I leave for work @ 6:15am I didn't want my neighbors griping about it so I ran it with about 8 discs. If I wanted to be rowdy I would put the open end cap on and it sounded great. They also replaced the first version for free when it started coming apart. |

Is the Supertrapp still manufactured and available? I thought I heard that they were no longer made - |

I had an *external disc* (different from above) Supertrapp on my S2 when I got it. I think that came out back in the day when Buell was still a novelty, so it was basically the Supertrapp "universal" ED muffler with a tab welded to the back to hang it from. More blatty sound than a rumble, turned into a midrange-frequency hum on the highway. I pulled the endcap to try, it was more crackle than rumble. Didn't like it, I prefer rumble like my '72 Satellite with dual 3" flowmasters. Now I have a Buell race can adapted to the S2 header and I love it. Full race kit on my S1W, too - the SS2R was, again, to crackly for my tastes. On my old 99 M2, I had the Buell-branded Supertrapp *internal* disc muffler (pictured above, Buell logo instead of ST logo). It was too quiet for me, even with all the discs in...so I just pulled the discs out, installed the endcap with the turnout outlet, rejetted to match, and rode it that way. Good power, great sound, nice, durable can. I think I had close to 40k on it that way when I sold it, no issues. |
