Im really tempted to take it off. Ive had the top one off for 8K or so now with no problems. Everytime I see a pic of a bike with the lower off I just think it looks so clean. Has anyone actually broken a belt from not having the lower belt guard? |

I've not had any belt guards in more than a year, and I have the old 03 style belt. You'll probably be OK. |

I bought my bike with no lower Belt guard, it took 30k miles of off road, wheelies, stoppies, and everything else i could throw at it before it broke. |

My 98 has been sans belt guards for 40,000 problem free miles (I should note I replaced the belt at 20,000 miles when I replaced the rear isolators). My 08 has been sans belt guards for 14,500 problem free miles. (Message edited by Paint_shaker on January 11, 2009) (Message edited by Paint_shaker on January 11, 2009) |

i'd leave it on for off-road hazards, but that's about it. |

Unless you wear a dress when you ride take it off and never look back. |

If your bike is still under warranty, leave them on. Otherwise, they won't cover you if it snaps. (personally I don't think they do anything really) |

well, there's always the "getting your toes/finger shortened by the belt/pulley" issue..... most racing organizations require a guard that'll prevent such an occurrence why enable it? |

Racing organizations require a "chain guard" which implies the top guard (I have never seen a lower chain guard except on some antiques with sealed chains - have you?). The bottom guard is there to protect the belt not the rider. My bottom one is off (though I may put one back on if I can find a a real CF one cheap), passes tech at the dragstrip and has not caused any problems. |
