Now time for my $.02 worth of dribble.... Buell is owned by H-D (that's no secret). Now, H-D can't even engineer a new bike w/o having to blow smoke up Willie G's ass. Did anyone see the documentary on Discovery Channel about the V-Rod. All the engineers were bitching that they had to make this and that fit into Willie's superior design. I'm starting to think that backwards thinking is trickling into the BMC P&A department. Too many "art students" and not enough riders. Like I said, just my $.02 worth. | ||

Mike, I wouldn't be suprised if axle covers were the number one seller. Doesn't mean they're the number one "part". Think of it this way, if your significant other poked her nose into a Buell shop and wanted to buy you something neeto-keen for your bike, would it be a race kit or a set of axle covers. Now, the fact that you throw 'em up on top of a shelf to live their life in a field of dust wouldn't change the fact that they were sold. As far as why Buell offers chrome heel guards and such before a race kit or other such sumptious empowering objects, well, that's simple too. Which takes more time, chroming an already existing part or engineering a whole new exhaust. They'll catch up, give 'em time. bighairyralph | ||

Lake Bueller, Hopefully someone in East Troy will open their eyes when they (hopefully!!!) get a chance to see a limited production Team Elves XB9R out of High Country/Nallin/Wilson. That's what I'd love to see and in all the orange and black glory. "Stylists" stuck their nose in during the engineering of the Twin cam engine. Engineering was going to incorporate the oil filter in the pan under the engine to make life easier for maintenance. "Stylists" stuck it right back in front sideways to leak oil all over the regulator wiring. If they both drank from the same bottle of beer they could have designed a functional oil cooler to look the same and stuck the filter where Erik put the Blasts'. The axle cap issue: Erik strives for the least unsprung weight and P&A loads it back on! Anyone care for a set of lighted chrome caliper and rotor covers for an XB? They'll probably be offered in various hues to match your moods! Justin--Get your act together with a no-nonsense, serious kickass XB! Ok so now I have to chime in!!! You'll gripe about the color of the heel gaurds on the XB. What about the Blast? The only BMC stuff for my beloved single are cosmetic. While BMC does make a "race" kit for the XB, and many performance enhancements for the other models. When are we going to see things like real suspension components and performance goodies for the Blast. We Blast owner tend to go for the "rat" bike look. Going for performance rather than speed. Oh, I forgot they did make the ignition module that was also good for the Sporster. OK now I feel better, having voiced my opinion. I'm still having trouble trying to figure you all out when we Blast owners feel very left out. Ray | ||

Axle covers: won a pair at a Brag meeting, put them on for fun, what the heck they were free, crashed in WI, Dyna watched, the axel covers actually saved the axle nuts from getting all messed up, both front and rear, got home ordered a fairing stay(still waiting, 5 months now) and bought a new set of covers, they may be stupid, look dumb, i really dont care, makes it a whole lot easier to get the wheels off when the nuts that hold them in place are not missing a couple of threads, well worth the $10 bucks i spent on pair number 2 Just an opinion, and lets get one thing straight, P&A, is not the same as the people who design the stuff that P&A ships out, the young lady i meet at the open house, who was P&A(1 person at the time for all p&A coming out of east troy)was very nice, helped me out, did a great job, thought it was more important to help current customers than to get new ones, the whole boat, she impressed me beyond word, so dont bash her, she is just shipping out what is designed in another department Later ROger | ||

About the parts and accessories thing...I've compared my ride to a few Buells whose owners have a completely different mindset...mine is stripped of all I've deemed unneccesary. I've only added or replaced parts for lighter weight and/or improving handling/performance. Mine is relatively clean but I won't spend a minute polishing anything. On the other end of the spectrum some owners I've seen instead keep things relatively stock and purchase every possible accessory cover or trinket and polish everything that possibly can be. Different strokes I guess. If Buell P&A doesn't get it by now...they may never...but in the same way people used to make fun of the axle covers...I'm sure you'll find a ton of them installed out there. Those chrome heel guards just might end up going that route too. | ||

I'm thinking I'd probably wind up with one of those scale models of the old board track racer H-D's from the 1920's-30's, or a set of riding pants. Pretty sure I wouldn't end up with a set of axle covers. Maybe a coffee cup, but no axle covers. Actually, she'd probably walk up to Mike or Rick or Jen and ask for suggestions and they'd all probably suggest a gift certificate. ===== All of a sudden I'm getting a feeling about something happening in Colorado. I could be wrong, but don't think I am, too many things have lined up to make it seem viable. er, I know I'm comin in late to this conversation, but, just for clarification . . . does Buell, in fact, have a P&A arm, or does HD's P&A group also cover Buell offereings . . . . seems to me alot of the "Buell has honked me off, and here's how" screeds have been slightly mis-aimed in the past . . . . this may be another case of lack of a clear target this does not, of course, do away with any situation that has frustrated or angered anyone . . . . just tryin to get a clearer view of the landscape | ||

USROUTE66 , Where HAVE you been??I got the XB9S about 5 weeks ago ( #30) and have about 1500 miles on her.It arrived the afternoon of the last SCAB meeting. I had got notice two days before that it was built and loaded on the truck.That afternoon I was talking to Jerry on the phone and he said he'd put it in the pickup and bring to meeting.And then said he was kidding.LO an BEHOLD as soon as I hung up he went outside and the TRUCK pulled in with MY bike and to trick me Jerry Johnson uncrated it and brought it up in his pickup so everyone could sit on her.Picked it up the next week.Broke her in on Palomar mountain at 2500 Rpm.That was TOUGH!!!This last weekend was the first real test and if you read my post of yesterday you'd see how much FUN she is already.....Poor X1 is going to be VERY lonely in garage! 03XB9S 99X1 95 S2 for sale! 91 custom sporty for sale! | ||

Axle Covers: Just my reasoning, and then I'll let it go (for now ) First off - I'm not knocking any particular person (all Buell staff I've been in touch with have all been above and beyond great), or anyones particular tastes, but ... The less unsprung weight (wheels, axles, brakes etc. etc.) the suspension has to manage, the better your suspension will work. Hanging axle covers on your bike will increase unsprung weight - probably not by enough to truly matter, but it's still an indication of where P&A's thoughts are. To me, parts that will actually improve riding/handling would have made more sense. And Roger, if we had hollow axles as many UJM's, I'd stuff a polyurethane "axle slider" in there for just the reason you mention. Of course, if the axle covers sell that well, then I guess I was wrong (first time ever too ) Henrik | ||

As far as axle covers go. Maybe I am the only one in the world, but I actually like the way they look. I dont like the stock nut assembly & if I can make the bike look a little better for a couple of bucks all the better. Besides if any of us were that concerned with weight we would all simply go on a diet & shed a few pounds. Yes I know the difference between sprung & unsprung weight also, that was merely a point of reference. | ||

seems to me that even with the small amount of parts available from Buell (HD) for Buells, it's at least as much, if not far more, than many manufacturers offer for their bikes . . . . . . could have changed recently, but Yamaha offered hardly anything for their bikes not so very long ago . . . . .. . that's why we invivented the aftermarket, isn't it? | ||

Bomber, true and false, yamaha offers a big bore kit for the warrior, along with other assorted items, including a clothing line, this is true for most other bikes out there(i think they learned a thing or 3 form HD) your point about the past however is very true, in the past there was little avaliable from the factories, times have changed but i think that if you had the money and conections, there were things you could get if you looked real hard, but most of the time they were out of reach, remeber the A kit bikes and B kit bikes, some even went to C in a given year, the whole horizon is changing, more and more people are riding, more people want things for there bikes, will be interesting in the near future, cant wait till the MC show, one of my highlights of the winter months On another note Chicago Toys for ToTs is coming up, every child deserves a toy, so what if its cold, so what if its a parade, still fun and great bikes out(if its not raining or snowing) Email if you need more info Roger | ||

Ok bomber how about this example, if a company dosent make a part, how can it be expected to make a performace part to take its place, IE: Remus makes pipes for Ducati, ducati installs them but dosnt make them(dont know if they could) How could they make a performance version, or better yet would it be worth it? I think a better example is, maybe in some cases, the OEM can not make a part that is unsafe for road use, for example, if the regulations for bikes in the US say it must be this way, say noise level, i dont think Buell can make a race muffler, that is street legal due to noise requirments, otherwise if you got a ticket, you could blame it on buell, i think in many cases you could find that rules and regs prevent a manufacturer from producing a given product, more than there desire to make it,or make money selling it However cosmetics are easy and legal | ||

TFT happens in chicago, dan ryan woods, south side, starts at 9am(i think, it may be 9:30) goes up western, 2 lines of bikes, last year there were 26000 bikes in the parade, afterwards we go home and warm up, or we go to a bar, illinois harley, who knows depends on the day,i leave early, get to the park about 7:30, watch the bikes come in, have coffee, look around, talk to a bunch of people, fun, not a ripping ride, really is a parade, you bring a NEW unwrapped toy, and take it to the marines station on foster ave, i enjoy it, unless its snowing or raining, i still bring the toy up at a later date(allready bought a couple for me and the wife), oh and it happens Dec 1st this year, right after turkey day, your welcome to join us, dress warm, and like i said, i enjoy it, but others ar not into parades Email me if you want, no need to cluter up the GD board |
