I'm in. 1-05-09 220 even @ 5-8 (hoping for lighter or taller) What did that other thread say? 7lb=1hp? Does that mean it takes more than 30hp to haul my butt to the fridge? Also, Ninja 250s build about 29hp and weigh 305lb. Add me and riding gear and you are up to about 550lb. How does that thing move at all, let alone get up to 90mph or so? |

When I was 20 I weighed a little over 300 pounds on a "heavy-set" 5'11" frame. I finally decided girls were better than doritos and that I better get moving if I wanted one (or more than one ). I made it down to about 210. It can be done! A boring desk job and a wife who can eat whatever she wants and stay thin have led to some regain, but I'm headed back to 210 this year. 1/5/09 5'11" 245# Let's do it! I'll give a little explanation of what has worked for me. It's a simple concept but it's hard to change bad habits...keep your metabolism burning clean. If you pay attention you can feel the difference between when your metabolism is running clean and burning everything you eat and when it's not. I sortof feel a little jittery when I'm running clean, that feeling where you're a little hungry but you can still function fine. My key is to stay in that zone, which sometimes means eating a little snack because if I don't I'm going to "bonk", as athletes say (run completely out of energy and be forced to eat an appendage). Trust me I'm also pretty fond of the freshly-gorged-on-supreme-pizza-and-beer feeling, too. Exercise will keep your metabolism elevated but it's up to you to avoid treating your pie-hole like a garbage disposal if you want to burn that spare tire. Some metabolism cloggers I watch out for when trying to lose weight: 1) saturated fat/too much fat - I try to limit fat from non-natural sources (eat nuts, p-nut butter, veg. oils, meats) 2) too many carbs, especially processed carbs - it's easy in America...everything has sugar and refined flour in it. This is the big killer for me. I love beer, cereal, crackers, bread, etc. Fruit is the best carb source. 3) Preservatives - processed foods that have chemicals/additives/preservatives in them are not good fuel, even if it's a "nutritional bar" that has them. I think of it like 87 octane, only run on it when there's no choice. 4) Quantity - eat too much of anything and it will ruin your metabolism (at least temporarily). Protein and fiber are critical to lose weight. Drinking whey powder and a low-sugar fiber drink will make a huge difference, I guarantee. Old habits are hard to break, but if you can remember these guidelines when it's time to choose foods, you can lose weight. Hell I used to break chairs, for F's sake. Last march I ran a half marathon in 2:14. It can be done! |

A boring desk job and a wife who can eat whatever she wants and stay thin have led to some regain I heard that!! My wife can eat anything and stay thin. PLUS she cooks A LOT of food every night for dinner. I have finally got her on the boat with me. LESS FOOD FOR ME! |

My lazy ass is in too. 5'9" at 207 lbs. I want to get down to 170, but I'll settle for 180. I put on about 35 lbs in the last few years after quitting smoking. I quit smoking and started eating. |

On protien: 1) protein is a building block for muscle, more muscle burns more calories. 2) protein is a poor energy source, so when you eat it you feel full and satisfied but your body is more inclined to burn its fat stores. On fiber: 1) psyllium husk fiber (metamucil, etc) will expand in your belly and make you feel fuller. Whole psyllium husk tastes wierd but it the best for this trick. 2) fiber will slowly be worked through your system, slowing down digestion and making you crash less between meals...helps beat the ravenous frenzies. 3) some of it is soluble, gets in the bloodstream and cleans out the goo, good for the heart. |

So if I put some Benefiber in with my Whey powder in the morning it would be a good thing? I have been drinking Whey powder 30 min. after working out for some time but I'm always looking for all the help I can get! |

I do that very thing almost every weekday...whey protein and fiber for breakfast. 130 calories that keep me mostly full until lunch. Sometimes a small handful of almonds is needed to get me there. Willpower is my weak point, I'm in an office with mostly non-exercising overweight types so the office junk food is always taunting me. Example: there is a Boston cream cake in our break room that is calling to me seductively as we speak. |

I had a checkup recently- the doc's scales said 199! The GF's scales just now said 193. I want to be 180-185 max. Last night we were watching "World's Best Dancers" with that Flatley schmo- the Russian dance troupe came out and they did that Cossack "squat" dance that everyone has seen. In my distant past I could do it for a short amount of time. Last night my spare tire wouldn't even let me try- completely could NOT get the balance to even try! Made for a good laugh from the GF- I guess that's something... How depressing. Made me go get another beer from the fridge. Gonna seriously look into bicycling to work. |

I just finished P90X's Ab Ripper X workout. Oh my God are my abs week!! I started P90X the week after Thanksgiving and weighed in at 214 @ 5'11+ What drove me to get on the ball was my pants were getting too tight in the waist and I don't want to have to buy a new wardrobe. Everyone has that moment and that was mine. I'm only weighing in about every 2-3 weeks so I'll post after Friday. I'm also running on a treadmill and working on an elliptical at a local wellness center bacause I've got to be able to get into my leathers come May!! www.racingwithralph.blogspot.com |

I'M BACK TOO! I am hovering at 225 according to my bathroom scale. I have been informed that it is about 8 pounds off! Aggggghhh! But, it is consistent. So that means when I thought I weighed 255 to start last year I was actually at about 263!! Wholly Schnikees!! That also means what I now read as 225 is in the real world 233. shit. Well at least the loss amount is still the same, I'm down 30 lbs from joining this program last year. SO.....I am starting now at 233 and I am aiming at 210 for the end of the year. My wife, son, and I have lost a combined total of around 110 pounds last year. |
