Can you drill a small hole in the translucent cover, or will it break? |

The translucent ones will break more easily than the colored ones. I have seen the front corners break where the mounting bolts hold them when techs let the shoulder of the bolt catch them. I have not done it, but I am sure it will have no ill effects if you stay away from the edges by a fair margin. Mind if I ask why a holy air box cover? |

I'm nputting on an alarm and was thinking of putting the light there. Not sure I may just not put the light on. So far the airbox is the only place I have figured to put the light. But I don't know that I really want to drill on anything. |

there is a detailed thread on here where someone drilled in the dash face plate to mount some lights (think it was for voltage warning lights?). looked pretty good and not out of place. its easy to get the dash out and face plate off as well, atleast on an 'S' model neway. its been a while since i have looked at that thread so my memory might be off a tad. |

If you have translucents...put the light *under* the airbox and let it shine through. It'd be a pretty cool look, IMO |

Ft_bastard, that looks great! I've been looking at that thread and trying to decide if I want to take things apart like that. I'm not overly mechanically inclined so I don't want to fubar anything. I didn't rally think of the LED placement when I bought the alarm. It took me awhile of searching badweb just to find a placement for the alarm itself. And off the subject of alarms. There is a light plug in between the 2 headlights (some Euro thing that we don't use in the US) will this be good for a power outlet? To run a GPS? |

If you do decide to drill (but I do like the idea of letting the light shine through the translucent cover). I have used those multi step drill bits on plastic with good success. The problem with the regular drill bit once it catches (especially with the bigger sizes) it wants to power it's way through the plastic and that sometimes cracks it. The multi bits kind of burrow their way through. And with the ever increasing next hole size you have a built in deburring tool. |

I didn't think the light would shine through the air box enough to see it. But I just held it under there and if you get it right against the plastic it will work. So I think that's what I will do. I still need to come up with a way to mount it without looking hokey. I have a few ideas, and will be going to the hardware store later to look around. |
