Good to see (or meet) everyone...it was like a mini buell event!

So Frank...how was the ride home?

It was great seeing everyone. I have never rode a Uly more than a test ride but it is a very easy bike to ride. I really like being up higher and being able to maintain situational awareness of what is going on.

The weather was ok until we got South of Denver and the temp dropped. When the sun went down the temp dropped again and the heated grips came on. I have always used heated gloves but the grips are nice.

Of course we went the highway on the way home so I did not get a chance to see how well it handled except in my neighborhood and I was impressed.

Now to start with the accessories. Bags first.. Any aftermarket companies make bags or am I limited to Buell?

I was thinking on the way up there that the last time we did the HCHD meet and great was 5 Jan of 2008. I guess we only want to do this in the winter LOL. We need to get together in the Spring for an actual ride. Although it is a lot of fun to talk Buells and actually see Buells in the parking lot. Buying them is fun too.

Frank

I was actually headed out the door at 11 AM . . .the 1995 S2 was warmed up and ready to ride out to meet with you folks today. It was just about then that the heavy cold I have been battling all week decided to relapse. There was no way I was going to make it out to Frederick under the "chills and fever" syndrome . .

Frank - congratulations on the new Uly! There are several after market bag options. I went with the Caribou option and then added a "tour pack" using my a bracket of my own design. Caribou is based here in Boulder . . .and I found them to be both convenient and helpful.

The "tour pack" is a Pelican Case ordered off the web. Its size was dictated by the size of my laptop . . .which I needed to have with me on my trips to Oregon last year. I have toyed with the idea of ordering another Pelican bag large enough to provide lockable storage for a helmet . . .or two. The constraining factor when fully loaded is the lightness of the front wheel. I learned just in time to never just "hop off" when the bike was pointed uphill.

I you are interested, I can provide more photos of the tour pack bracket.

Don, I am real sorry I did not get a chance to meet you this time but hopefully we can do a little riding in the Spring. It is better that you take care of that cold first rather than risk getting something worse.

Thanks for the pic. I am going to research a little to see what I can come up with.

Take care Don and get well soon.. Frank

I made it back to Canon City without freezing to death! Had a great time today and enjoyed meeting some more CBR folks. I took a few pictures that I will try and post later tonight or tomorrow.

I can't wait to help Frank get the first coat of mud on his Uly. We'll snap a few pics and send them to CityX for sure.

There are actually many options for bags.

Obviously you have two options from Buell, there are other options from Twisted Throttle (http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/3 744) for both Givi and Hepco Becker, and options from more dual sport companies like Touratech (http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/usa.lasso?SubCat =Ulysses).

Another option is to find someone with a wrecked Uly (like Dr_Greg) and buy their hardware to be used with any of the HB luggage choices from either Twisted Throttle or Eurotech Motor Sports. The HB luggage seems to be a little less without the Buell logo...and especially if used hardware is purchased. That is the way I got my top box bracket.

Jody, great pictures. Put a smile on my face.

You know, when you ride a bike motoGP style, you have to talk to yourself when you're on a different bike. One down, four (actually 5) up, one down, four up.

Hey Zack, which app do you have on your iphone for the db?

So, did anyone get out on the rode today? Just a bit chilly out there.

That tricorder comment got me rolling. You should see Zac when he forgets his phone.

I am glad Lynn and got out for a ride yesterday. With it snowing it is time to start thinking about modifications to the Uly.

I found a neat road sign on my Uly ride yesterday

Of course with a name like Skinner it is a dirt road.

Nice pictures Frank! It was nice being part of your exciting birthday up at HC. You must have been pretty anxious to get on the road with your new toy, because I didn't even know that you left. I was inside killing time and was planning to ride with you and Jody for at least the first 20-30 miles...but next thing I know you two were gone!

Next time you are up this way...I will have to take you to Ulysses Park in Golden, right off Ulysses Street, for some more good photo opportunities.

As far as mods for the Uly...several of the things I have done came standard on your bike, and several other mods I have done I ended up taking off because I figured out that the stock setup was better (for me). In your case, adding some luggage may be on the top of your list, but I bought my Uly with side bags. So here is my top three list of favorite and/or most used mods (in no particular order):

1. Garmin Zumo 550 with the XM30 antenna for XM radio. (Garmin Zumo 550) Of course you will also need a good pair of ear buds to get the most out of the XM radio...I like the Shure E3's, but there are many good ones out there.

2. "Warm and Safe" jacket liner with a Heat Troller. (Warm-N-Safe liner) I wear my jacket liner even when temps are in the 50's (or 60's with my summer riding jacket) because sometimes it is nice just to turn it on a little, or a lot if the temps dip while riding. If you are an MSF graduate, Warm and Safe will give you a 20% discount...Mike "puts his money were his mouth is" while advocating safety.

3. Kaoko throttle lock. (Kaoko Throttle Control) In my option...these should not cost so much, but I would buy them again! The work great without having to compromise the Uly handguards. There may be cheaper solutions...but these Kaoko's are a first rate product! Keith at Dark Horse Moto (Badweb sponsor) was working on a proto type throttle lock for Buell's that also looked great...but for some reason he was never able to get it done. So to me the Kaoko's are the only game in town.

Even though there are other honorable mentions (like the HID conversion, Aux lighting, Tuono mirrors, Pazzo racing levers, ZTL2 brake system, Zero Gravity windshield, and the Autocom system), the three items above are my top three!!!

Happy farkling!

Thanks Steve, I noticed you took your aux lights off, is there a reason for that?

Yes, bags, GPS and some more heated gear is in order thanks for the info. I could not think of a better person to ask about Uly modifications than you. Looks like I will be putting the White 95 S2 up for sale next spring but since I don't have to sell it I will ask what it is worth. I will keep the 96 S2T and the 98 S1W and the Ugly of course.

Sorry about leaving in haste. My goal was to get home before dark because Jody and I did not have clear shields. My night vision is not what it use to be. We almost made it but the last 30 miles I was unable to read the dash without flipping the shield up. 2 inches of snow on the ground now so when I get done shoveling I already have some mods ready.

The problem is if either Dan or I get one, the other will have to have one too. So, 2 new bikes is not in our budget right now!?!?!?

Oh, but you haven't asked for our two-bike trade/purchase price yet!

re: height:
We are hearing that Buell is about to release a rear Olin shock that will address seat height adjustability issues. If that is not good enough, we are working a couple 1125 projects that should offer plenty of lowering capability.

Anyone interested should stay tuned, or better yet, stop by on a nice day and take one of the projects, the 1125CRtt out for a demo ride.

Help me wipe this grin off my face!

Wonderful riding weather today. I know not everyone could take off to enjoy it. I rode out to Pueblo in the afternoon and stayed until 8pm this evening and was pleasantly surprised that the temps were still in the upper 40s coming back. Kind of reminded me of early spring when the temps are not too hot or cold.

This old Harley dude asked about my XB9, how big the motor was, how fast it would go, etc. He also asked how much it weighed and his jaw dropped. Yep, probably one third as much as his fully fared e-glide.

Thank God for global warming so we can ride in January! ; )

Oh yeah, I drove by the Pueblo raceway and tried to get a glimpse but only saw a little bit. I didn't see much in the way of work to get it ready for spring. Sure would be nice to have access to it this year. Who knows?

I got out yesterday, it was beautiful.
Put ~100 miles on Loretta.

Went by the shop and finally bought a new front tire.
I'll put it on in a few days... next time I have to drive the Jeep due to weather...

Sunset heading south from Ft.Collins was exquisite.

Jody, glad you got to enjoy your day. Look in the MRA website. I'm planning on doing their race track day either in March or April, maybe both. I want Skye to do at least one as well for the experience. It will also give you the certificate to do open track days.

Zack, glad you got your tire. Now get it on boy!!!: ) We're suppose to be getting some furniture on Sat (so I'll have to stay home) but Dan will probably be heading up there to pick up his bike. He is very anxious to get it back and running.

Nothing worse than a boy without his bike.
