Why dont they shop the frame components? I know there is a street tracker Single thumber that keeps bringing me back here. That is the bike I want, something that is reliable, that I can swap out tires on, lighter then the CityX and a bit more capable at the dirty bendy hoopdees than the XB. We have the technology...http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/322748.html?1196783229 (the pics never load from home, its the blue and yellow one that leaves me jones-in) Still mad that we didnt get the SM/DS Dirty Buell Muell : |

Two of the photos within the above link, the orange and black flat tracker and the yellow and blue street tracker, have haunted me to the point of obtaining Blast engine cases and 19 inch mag wheels and a pile of stuff to build a similar machine. There is just something so pure about those bikes, a big single, frame, wheels, bars, and little else.
I'm kind of thinking of just a bit of a different take on that basic layout, though. A slimmer tank, and rounder, cafe style rear section and seat, with drag bars. A high, left exiting XR style exhaust, as-cast finish engine and primary covers, and magnesium finished 19" rims with Avon rubber. Top that off with a white paint job with red scallops...
That's the cart, the horse(s) will be built out of the parts that I've accumulated, and will be adding to as the project progresses. One possibility that has me intrigued is to build up the areas around the cylinder mounting area and re-machine the cases to fit a 4" bore cylinder. I've seen this mentioned elsewhere in the Knowledge Vault, (apparently, some guy at the factory has a similar setup on a bike) but have not seen any details as to what type of cylinder was used, or what is involved. (Hey, I'm in a machine shop where I can really cut loose, and now that I've got all this Blast stuff, I'm on a mission, so if anyone has some slick idea, let's hear it!)
I really like the XBlast idea as a factory produced bike, though. Without a doubt, it would have the highest smile per cubic inch ratio of any motorcycle ever built!

The XB5 sounds like an amazing idea to me!

I got my Blast as a commuter bike, and to perfect it in that role I would add 3 things. Heated grips, Hard luggage, and ABS Brakes (38% less fatality statistic w ABS may steer me away from Buell eventually if they dont make it an option)

Yes, ABS. Available on the HD touring bikes, they may get to the Buells, but certainly not to the Blast. When the choice was between a Ulysses and BMW R1200GS, it'd be tough not to choose the BMW with ABS. I rode the 650GS with ABS for a weekend, on dirt and street. The ABS made it almost foolproof, able to dive into turns and not have to worry about needing to grab a handful of brake.
Yes, ABS, definitely on the wish list.

In this order I'd like to see:

ABS - We'll never see this because of cost
Self canceling turn signals - no reason for them not to be there already
Hard luggage - big enough for a helmet
Fuel injection - never see this because of cost

The Blast is a great little bike but these final touches would be an improvement.

(1) Adjustable suspension (2) Around 50 hp would be nice. (3) Give me one for extended TTD evaluation. : )

TTD = Test To Destruction

I can program the self-canceling signals into mine if I choose...

Sometimes I wish it had a different name; I'm tired of hearing be-last, blah-st. The other MSF instructors can be so insensitive... lol.. It could be worse I suppose, they could have stuck with the bad weather names and called it the "drizzle"

I wish Buell realized that since the Blast is fairly inexpensive, and easy to tinker with, it could be the VW bug of the motorcycle world. They should make MORE accessories for it.
A cafe style tail, tank, seat and fairing.
Hard luggage (to fit a full face helmet in).
XB style fairing.
A TRAP DOOR for the trans.
Bigger gas tank.
More oil capacity.
I agree with the self canceling signals.
Some days I think about fabricating a hitch and ball, and make a trailer for it so I could use it as a grocery getter....
A side car would be fun!
Seriously though.. a TRAP DOOR!
