Friday: OptiMike and myself arrived to set up. Smoke was already there and New12r and Shred were on the way. We set up our pit and the others got there, with BuellGator arriving barely in time to drop his bike and leave before the gates closed. Saturday: The temps were comfy all day. I rode intermediate with New12 all day and managed to hit a personal best of 1:29. After one session we got back to the pits and New12 said he could see smoke and the rubber I was laying down coming out of 11!!! I also got to ride with another guy who was at the same skill level. We traded back and forth quite a bit through out the day and had a blast!!! I flopped my Corsa III rear at lunch so I could wear out the other side of the tire (Jennings is a lefty track). New12 and I were the fastest riders of the day in the intermediate session!! If we started in front, nobody passed us. If we started in the rear, we did a lot of passing. It was a great learning experience to start in the back of the back and work on my passing skills. As a bonus, I got to ride BuellGator's Drummer equipped 1125r. It looks, runs ands and sounds great!!!! Sunday: I was on my own for the first few sessions and was shown the "hot line" into three, rolling off the throttle at 130ish and not really using the brake. Talk about pucker factor!!!! Then Smoke dropped back to intermediate and towed me around for a few sessions before my rear tire was totally used up. For the most part I was able to hang in the corners, but the 1125R obviously leaves the XB in the straights. Gainesville H-D/Buell chipped in for a used rear power pilot so I could finish out the day (Big thanks!!!!). There was a guy there that would pass me, but he could not get away from me. I was coming into 9, leaned over, dragging a knee while trail braking the front brake and looking to take him on the inside. About that time I saw he had thrown out the anchor and also was closing the door on me. I had about 1/2 second to choose one of three options 1) lowside and risk being run over, 2) collide with him, 3) stand it up and head off the track. I chose the latter and everything worked out ok. Another rider behind me saw the whole deal and said I made a great save!! My last couple of sessions I worked on my starts. Tires: Saturday was the 3rd track day for the Corsa IIIs. They really felt good, even as they wore down. They gave awesome feed back, as I was able to feel the rear end walk out and moderate the throttle accordingly. The Corsa III/ Power Pilot combo worked good as well. All in all, It was a great time and I received some exciting news from Gainesville H-D/Buell at the end of the weekend that I am not at liberty to talk about just yet!! Looking forward to my next track day and also the 2009 racing season!!! |

had a great time riding and hanging out with the 3%r's and FL Buellers. the look on Shelly's (Shred's wife) face was priceless when she came in from her first track outing ever. Paint was dragging knee in almost every corner and Paul got faster and more comfortable every outing. it was great to meet some more people and the weather was nicer than it had any right to be. an absolutely perfect motorcycle weekend. a special thank you brother michael for showing me the way around the track and an apology to charlie and laird for my not thinking about trading bikes for a session until it was too late. see y'all in March and have a HAPPY, PROSPEROUS AND SAFE NEW YEAR!!! It was great to see Tim(smoke) and Charlie(New12r) again. The track really is too much fun, feeling better everytime I got out there. Got alot more comfortable passing people on Sunday. Not yet ready to move up to intermediate, I'm heading up for the novice day in Feb. hopefully they can help me out with my trouble spots. A great time was had, I wish we had that many Buellers all the time at the track. |

Is that my darkie in the pic?? And does my tire pressure look low?? Big thanks to OptiMike for the tune on the Uly, she is running better than ever!!! The family and I had a fantastic time! I was getting the back end loose in 1 at 85 mph quite a bit. Finally got turn 3 down a lot better, still room for improvement though. It was not till the afternoon did I get the nuts up to pass in 8 again. Dicing it up with Paint and my buddy Ron on a 954RR in race trim all day was just plain awesome. We should have moved to A group as we pretty much OWNED the I group, on our slow Buells. My form on the Uly still sucks, my form on the 1125 was pretty weak too, I look the best on Paint's 12R. Looking forward to many more days at the track with pals! (Message edited by new12r on December 31, 2008) |
