I am not really impressed with my choices for windshields for my 2001 M2. I was hoping I could scare up some pics of what other people have done on their own to knock down the breeze. Anyone installed a blast wind screen? I can't afford to visit the chrome shop anymore so I am looking for an cheap and creative project for winter. All picks and help are greatly appreciated. Thanks. K.

Do they still sell windjammers?
Those just clamped onto your bars, right?

Not Homemade but a Givi A770 Fairing. Just Holding it for fitting. Building a Hybrid, cowbell and all.

I agree on the S&S, a Mikuni with a force winder would look much better!
And scrape off those ugly Harley emblems, they don't belong on a Buell!

I modified the S&S mount to follow the tuber frame line. It has the same clearance as the original breadbox. It is an S&S Desperado with the vent holes in front.

That Givi looks good, very nice.

I do have to say...it's your bike, of course, but personally I'd paint/powdercoat the intake cover (whichever you choose) frame-black or bodywork-silver. Chrome on a Buell...not right in my mind. Even PM wheels are a stretch for me. Same with the HD badges. That one's just a pet peeve of mine, sorry, but it's a *Buell* - be proud of the fact that a lot of folks don't "get it".

I'm anxious to hear how the windscreen works out for you, though. Will it mount to the same brackets as the stocker, or is it shaped too differently?

The paint is Silver with red metalflake. Looks silver until you are a few feet from it then it pops. It has Pirelli Scorpion Syncs w/ silver vinyl stripes on rims. I have HD Dyna mirrors on it with custom chrome adapters 5/16 to 10mm. It is just a different look. Buell performance ignition, modified White exhaust. Blueprinted carb. Carbon fiber undertail American Sport Bike. Crane fireball Coil. XB Rocker boxes into a JAZ 1 pint catch can, all braided silver hose. Rear Spools. XB Turn signals. Custom gauge panel that fits the GIVI, Custom gauges and much more. It will be done in a month or so ready for spring. Unlike the brutal chopper destructions for all of these Buells and the people the sawzall the hell out of the rears of these bikes everything that I have done can be undone in about 1 hour.

Ratbuell - I started with no chrome idea. I went with this scheme to mess with the minds of many and have them scratch thier heads. Buell people will know it for what it is. Harley people will not have a clue. After looking for a change when I got the bike last Feb I looked at alot of bikes Buell and Harley. My bike was that horrible Blue. I said the world does not need ANOTHER Black bike or anything with flames. I wanted to be different. Little did I know that there are NO tubers in my area. I live in Phoenixville, PA. 20 miles west of Philly in the Burbs, there are at least 10 HD/Buell dealers within 100 miles and in two years i have seen 2, one old S2 that was beat at a shop and a volcano grey with and orange frame on the road when in my car (could not catch him to talk). I see maybe 500 bikes in a weekend X's march thru Nov (that is alot of bikes in that time) and that is all the tubers in two years. I see about 5 Ducatis in a weekend and Triumphs, (and there are only 2 dealers in the area far away) than I do Tubers. With only over 9000 M2's built in 6 years WORLDWIDE, I guess chopper builds and normal atrition does not leave many of the left. How many are left worldwide NOW?? Think about it, 1500 MAYBE are left. Accidents, abuse, theft and parting out and normal stuff leaves the number decimated.

Ebay Special. There are dealers for them. Usually around $250 but I will PM you the best deal I found before I got mine from ebay. It does have its own mount. I put it in the stock location attached to the headlight bolts and drilled 1 additional hole for lockdown.

There are only 3 for 7" headlights from GIVI. This was a universal A770. It fir perfect in fitting. I will send pics when mounted next month.

Holy Sh**, I actually saw and talked to a 1998 Thunderbolt rider at 2:00pm 2 blocks from my house. Followed him and talked. He has had it 3 days and got it for free from his brother who had it in his barn and is a Harley guy. Lucky him. He will be logging on new so welcome him when he logs on, welcome Pete.

Dave,

Thanks for the lead on the fairing. Did you try mounting it using the stock dash? I have an S1 and wonder how it will fit on mine. Sure does look good though. I am hoping to use the stock dash. It will be nice to have something to hide behind on the interstate. I do 70 miles/day @80 mph until I get off the highway. I get spoiled on the Road King but much rather ride my Buell!

Yes but I was going so custom I just went for the dash I designed. It will hold aircraft switches and it is more spread out and will also support the fairing. That is what I wanted. There is extra room with the Givi fairing and stock dash. It has heavy duty mounts, I think 70 mi@80 would not be a problem. They are built in Italy and the roadways have high speeds, I have seen them mounted on Yamahas & Kawasakis. Granted it is no road king size but it is better than the stock bikini.

Eshardball - Maybe we can ride next year you are not that far. On the way to Ocean City and Wildwood maybe we can hook up and see some of your backroads, Are the pineys any good or are they just that rumbling Puchunck, puchunk, Puchunk that I experience in my car. There are a greoup of us that will be riding out of the burbs, next year, Harleys, Ducatis, Buells, BMW, Norton, Triumph and a few jap bikes.

+1 on the S3 fairing.

It gives good protection without being intrusive.

And it has the look of the early Buells.

I think it looks cool (but I am biased - in addition to my M2, I have an S3T and love both).

S3 fairing is way to big and would spoil the S1's Character. As far as the riding, I live in Holland Twp NJ and have what I consider to be some of the nicest roads in the area. The pineys down south are Ok if you want to run the bike wide open.I ride with a mixed group, Harleys, Jap bikes, etc but am the only Buell. I have guys that come down from Bergen County to ride my neck of the woods. I am 2.5 miles from the Rieglesville Bridge on 611.. A road trip north will entail a stop at the Riverside in Marshall's Creek, the trip south of me requires a lunch stop in New Hope. PM me when you are taking a ride or want to check out my neck of the woods. Always glad to have another Bueller to ride with. I have seen only one tuber out here and that was at the Riverside last summer.

I like the choice of your silver color with the flakes. That would be my first choice if I were to paint my bike. Porsche also has a couple of really nice silver paints...
The fairing looks good too.

Since it was not a standard color I picked it. The X1 Millenium was the only other tuber silver if I am not mistaken. I did not want to go wild even though I like them, it is not the character of a Buell. I.E. Candy or taffy or total metalflake like the choppers. Sometime less is more, and understated is underated. MY bike has tons of small improvememts and mods that you need time to see. I am going over the entire bike to polish all the little bolts screws and areas with a dremel that are not easy like the head bolts the rear bolts, adjusters, etc.

Wd,
If you are interested in the S3 fairing idea, I have most of what you would need sitting in my garage. The nice thing about it is that it is plug and play.

Dave,

I got my Givi 770 mounted tonight. It looks great. I need to make a bracket to mount the gauges at an angle though. Just enough to get some wind protection on the highway but not so much that it looks awkward

I am in the process of installing my custom top tree. I am making a dash mount out of steel until I figure out what I want to do out of Aluminum. Edoardo( The Italian job) has this tree on his show winning S1 but I have a front MC clearance issue that I have to resolve. Since the new bars are solid, I need to figure out what I'm going to do for mirrors. Pics coming when some progress has been made.

Sorry, Never answered your original question. Yes its black with silver grills. I am going to shoot in the same Candy Apple Red that the rest of the bike is wearing. I may have to go back to the original S1 tank due to bar clearance issues.
