It’s a Chevy, they have no resale value, so $300 in damage = totaled. It sucks. Ok realistically I would say $2k in damage just from what I’ve seen in pictures. I don't know the details of the truck to look it up in Kelly Blue book, but just guessing, $3k-$4k book value. Math is a bitch |

Ferrisbuellersdayoff, nice truck. Of course I really like red trucks. My 2004 F250 Diesel.

Yeah totaled. Box dinged the back of the cab and the whole front end is pushed into/thru the radiator support. Over $4,000 in new parts plus paint and labor......Fricken 3 pounds of plastic grille is $452.00 in it's self.......... |

I had a red Bronco about 5 years ago. It got me more ass than a proctologists office. |

Regardless that the insurance company ain't doing anything, I found "one" (out of a dozen or more turds) that looked like it would be OK as a Winter truck. I found every S-10 extended cab for sale in the Des Moines area(NOTHING around here)and went looking. Every one of them had a major issue or two. Poked a 50 cent size hole in the side of the first one I looked at...... and from there it went downhill. Butchered lift kits, missing interior parts, butchered under hood wiring, crappy re-paints, rust growing all over all of them(not just spots, whole panels),salvage titles and beat to hell..........you name, I seen it. I got this one that was priced in the same area as the rest of them and got $800.00 off of that. No pancakes on the body, original paint, no rust except the bottom of the 3dr door and that's an easy repair. Was the only one that started with out a boost and it had sat for a while as there were no foot prints in the snow. V6 - 4.3 - 4X4 - full size spare - 5 speed - CD player - super clean interior with a layout and color exactly like my 1998 S-10. 70K less miles and 3 years newer. Runs good, drives good, everything works except the parking brake won't "catch". Needs a belt, mud flaps, air filter and a full fluid check. Nothing added to it except a trailer ball......all original configuration! Has a few chips and nicks, but not beat up.......just used.I stole it compared to the other trucks. This thing would command twice the price if it was on somebody elses lot by like vehicle comparison   It's a GMC, same damned thing as a Chevy S-10.Even the windsheild is non sandblasted and is it's original...........SCORE!..... |

Zip-that is one clean Sonoma. That 4.3 I think is almost unkillable. I sure there are a few exceptions, but not many. |

"Figg'n Dodge" .....yeah, well, they are all just nuts and bolts. I'm a "wool in the dye" Ford man, but for some reason have been driving Chevy's since the 90's. Simply amazing how BAD vehicle service has become in recent years. Nobody gives a crap anymore. Sincerity is gone. Exception is my local "Mom and Pop" Chevy garage. They helped me out all they could, even tho they knew they had nothing I was going to buy. They see the bigger picture of return sales in parts for my truck. |

My old '68 D100 may shortly be going to a new home, as I've been made a very interesting offer for it. Soooo, I'll need to replace it, I've seen a 2000 Dodge Dakota, crew cab, with a 4.7 V8 & manual box. Any Opinions? |

Yep, I did. I like the truck as far as appearance, how it drives. But being in the shop for petty crap 6 or 7 times in a year and a half of owning it can kiss my BUTT. I've had 6,bought new Import truck's. This thing has them all beat as far as problem's are concerned put together. Rattles, gas tanks, tranny fluid lines, alignment issues right off the lot,bad factory wheel that was out of round.... who would of thought that. Hell its a AWD truck that Dodge wants you to change the front transfer case fluid and the rear diff every 15,000 miles to the tune of $250.00. Hell my little Honda Element is AWD and the first fluid change was at 45,000 miles. What a crock. |

This whole truck accident thing has consumed my whole Christmas vacation. It's been in the basement for 4 days, going thru it from one end to the other. Nothing major, just a ton of little things......from missing bolts and screws to tightening a leaking CV boot clamp. The biggest issue was a broken parking brake clutch.....$50.00 and it will be here tomorrow. Still can't figure out why I got it so cheap, compared to the same trucks that were basically junk/butchered/rotten at the same price range. So yesterday, all the snow melted..............course, the first 4X4 I've had in 10 years.......... |

My 99 ram was a great truck. I put 80,000 miles on it without a glitch! Not one problem! And i bought it with 40k on it. The 5.9 got better mileage than my newer Avalanche with the 5.3L. |

Man, I've been wanting to get a "new" truck for a while now. It'll be a while before I actually get one though as I don't need "two" projects right now. Oh yeah, by new I mean a '67 Chevy, to replace the one I sold three years ago. It was my first car and I had it five years and I've regreted getting rid of it since I did it. It had a bulletproof 292ci straight-6 with a granny-geared 4 speed. The next one I get will be a '67 C-10 with a built EFI 292 L6 and tremec 6 speed, '67 C-30 converted to a dually with the L6/6speed combo, or it'll be a '67-'68 Suburban with whatever. |

that looks pretty decent zip. there are a few around me in the ames area that arent toooooo bad. you are going to have to come over this way for a ride this summer. here is what i picked up a few months ago. 2004 tahoe allwheel drive. loaded and lowered a few inches. i like it a hell of alot. but if i dont figure out a way around the stupid stabilitrak and traction control it is going to go down the road. even when you turn the stuff of it still has a brake traction control that kicks in and shuts the frontend down. there are sensors on the steering wheel that convince it you are in a slide so it takes over. stupid thing anyway... today we just picked up a new land yacht. 96 grand marquis one owner from a good friends dad (80yrs old). hell even the frame is mostly factory black yet. got it for way less than any other one i saw. we werent even looking but just couldnt pass it up when he said he wanted to sell it. jenn needed a different car anyway. she just graduated from iowa state and this has more room for her to haul her tools and stuff around in. her beretta still runs awesome and gets 25+mpg usually, but it has 190,000 on it. just put a new steering rack in it a few weeks ago, but other than that have put about 70,000 on it since she got it and havent had to put any money into it really. |

I had a loaded Tahoe after my first S-10 and then went back to a new S-10. The Tahoe was great for road trips, but way too much vehicle for commute....plus I had to borrow a trailer every time I needed to haul stuff(often).Extended cab is for me as I carry a lot of stuff and the GMC was the only thing I could find that had "most" of what I needed and was in usable/decent shape. "His" insurance company(State Farm Insurance) still has not contacted me except the letter that stated I had to make payments to them for my share of the liability on the claim............and they don't even know what the damage is yet! I am 100% innocent and I will stick to that AND......."YOU BROKE IT, YOU BOUGHT IT"! My insurance adjuster left a message today and muttered something about: If they don't pay the claim, then we will, and I will need to come over and look at the truck. WTF? I don't want a claim on my insurance! It's not my insurance company's problem! I was surprised at the cost of NFC (New From China) parts on eBay.. I think I can rebuild the thing for around $500.OO in eBay parts! The 4x4 just ain't gonna get it in mileage when gas goes back up.(BOO!) You work at Zylstra? Did Des Moines drop Buell? |

see i have had tons of trucks and loved them, but i got to thinking when i was shopping around that most the time i go somewhere its for a bike trip or something with more than just me, so more room would be nice. im almost always hauling a few bikes anyway so i have to pull a trailer. i have one or two bikes that go, then the girlfriends bike, and if anyone else goes then there just isnt enough room. plus when we do snowmobile trips im right back to hauling a trailer. my daughter and jenn's son like the extra room if we go someplace. heck, they can each have their own row of seats in the back! if i had the cash to go out and buy a good crew cab duramax and a tuner i'd be all over it. You work at Zylstra? Did Des Moines drop Buell? yep, ive been in ames at zylstra's for a little over 3 years now. des moines droped buell about the time i started here in ames. they didnt want anything to do with it and thats fine with me. gets me more buell business. heck, i pull in a fair share of business from mason city and waterloo also. |

I used to think Huey Lewis sang about this: "I wanna new truck..." Took me YEARS to figure out why a truck caused all those weird symptoms. ~SM |
