i have an 08 flywheel in my 04 xb12r, i got it from buell directly. the flywheel was custom made by buell to be a direct bolt in for the old wheels. i know they where only making a handful. as far as fitting a regular 08 wheel in an old bike i don't know.-andrew |

A lot Ben. I looked into last season. Seemed too expensive to justify it, but that was a personal call. I believe the cost of parts alone was in the area of $1500. |

I'm still deciding whether or not to put 9 pistons in Greg's bike (mine now I guess) or leave it for this season as is. |

to Schmitty it makes no sense if your engine is revving ok.....if you need to rebuilt it makes sense for me and it should be stronger than the 04/07 assembly. don't like to insist but when you rebuilt change of bearings is a good idea left and right side all the extras in this conversion(not sure , check around) are stator, rotor and bolt...at this point you can replace the fuel pump pinion gear too with the "bronze" one just few money more. good luck Alessio |

Hey Ben and Rocco, Merry New Year! Sorry I've been out of touch for a while-not working at Hal's anymore (long story save it for a later post). Anyway, to answer your direct question you'll need the crank assy, bearings and stator assy. Depending on the state of your current build, you may also want to refresh or replace the pistons and hone the cylinders. Huge advantage with the '08 crank-stronger assy in general. You will also save about a pound and a half by switching to the new stator design. You can also cut down the crank and balance it which will save more weight and allow better spinup off corner but does add to the price. The biggest advantage is that you will not have to "refresh" the motor as often as you do now with the stock setup. That, of course, depends on the race schedule that you are going to be running. I hope that helps. I hope all is well with everyone and you are having a safe and happy Holiday Season. Best wishes to all for a great new year! BudC |

You'll need the crank, compensating sprocket and nut. I can't remember if the bearings needed replacing due to wear or size. I don't believe I needed the stator. You'll get new rods too though... |

I put the 08 into my 03. Lightened and balanced (using CP pistons) The whole bottom end is much beefier - pic is next to stock 03. Hals or DarkHorse can do the work but if you already have it apart and are putting new pistons on, you really ought to spend the extra $$ and get it lightened and balanced. Makes a quicker-revving engine without sacrificing reliability hardly at all. You can just look at the pic and see WHY there just isn't as much flexing in the bottom end with the bigger 08. Call Darkhorse Crankworks or HalsPA and ask about the mods http://www.halspa.com http://www.darkhorsecrankworks.com |
