ok, stupid mistake, only going about 5-10 mph and my x1 came around on me. She went down on her left side. At this point what I can see that I am going to need is a new clutch lever, new shifter, and "possibly" handle bars. I don't have any problem with the stock parts that were on it. First off, where do I get the service manual so that I can tackle these little jobs with knowledge. Secondly, anyone here have any of these parts they are willing to part with? |

I looked at the bike closer, and yes I do need handlebars! I like the position the originals give me. I looked through the classifieds and couldn't find anything. Anyone? |

You can order a Service and/or a parts manual from your dealer. SM is $60 MSRP, PM is $48. I don't have the part nos. handy. I go to work at 10am, I'll post numbers later if no one else has. Zack |

I checked american sportbike last night. They do have the clutch lever but the shifter and handle bars all they have are "upgraded" parts, billet, clip-on, etc. I am just looking to replace at this point. I like the stock parts and don't really want to spend all the extra cash on these items if I don't have to |

This is a perfect time to up-grade that shifter Bryan...You'll like what it does. I put it on my 99 and never looked back. I know you think it's pricey but very well worth it! |

I like the upgraded shifter on my X1 too. I have a bagful of extra "toepegs" i once machined too.The thing had a bad way of unscrewing and falling off.Or when you lay the bike down it breaks away causing you to replace the entire assembly when you only needed the "peg".The peg works on the new assembly too |

That sux....I got the levers but the handle bars are on my bike till spring when i put on the ones i got from little buggles, Thanks by the way!! Your welcome to the levers if you need them. There from my 01 x1w. let me know what you need ill help if i can. Hey jstfrfn what is the part number for that shifter upgrade, I dont have it and i hate the stock junk!! If you dont mind sir. Ok, I think I have found all the parts I am going to need other than the stock handlebars. Anyone have any idea where I can get them? Also, I was only going about 5 mph but does anyone know of any other items I should definitely inspect? Steering alignment? |

jstfrfun, are you saying to get the billet shifter arm pn/#5559 for $55? I could see this if this part will work with my bike, I cannot see however the price of pn/#5778 for nearly $300. I am not being smart, just seeing if the 5559 will work, I'll spring for it |

Sorry I can't help you with the parts but could you help us newbies understand how you fell going that slow? Hit the front brakes too hard on a slippery surface while turning? Just a guess.. Thanks and sorry about the fall..At least you did not get hurt...The bike can always be fixed. |

Well the here is what happened, I went out for a ride because it was unseasonably warm. The roads were wet though. I was extremely careful the entire time, taking curves and turns extremely slow. On the way back to my house I decided to go over a covered bridge. As I went up to the bridge I had to give it a little gas just to get up the hill. All was fine until my rear wheal came off the pavement and onto the wet wood floor of the bridge. The bike came around on me and the floor was very uneven so at a certain point I pretty much bailed. I guess it is from riding dirtbikes and 4 wheelers growing up but there is a split second where I decide whether to stay with the bike or let it take it's own course. It pretty much fell over, not really much else but I didn't thing I could save it so instead of the bike falling ON me I got off of it. I ended up about 5 ft from it and the handlebars went down inbetween the planks of the bridge floor. So in short, even though I did pay close attention to the wet roads, sand left behind by the salt trucks from the snow the previous days, and other conditions I failed to stay focused and didn't think about the wood being slick. |

Yes it's the 5778 Banke kit, and you'll LOVE it. I hated that banjo lookin' mess that was stock on it...changed the brake pedal too...gotta make it look right! |

Well right now I am just going with the bronze bushings hoping that they will tighten it up a bit. I really didn't mind the stock set up other than the play in it. Not enough to take that big of a dive right now |

Thanks for the description. The wood surface can be quite deceiving, specially after rain...I have fallen on my butt more than once on our deck, even while being very careful. Regarding the stock shifter assembly, the play is really the main thing that bothers me too. Could you tell me what kind/size bushing did you get to tighten it up? Thanks. |

I just got the kit from americansportbike pn-5554. When I took the old ones out I looked at them and they appear to be made out of carbon. I thought "Man, these should be bronze or brass or something" Of course someone else was way ahead of me and already making them!! After looking at the part again I just noticed that it says it is for 01/02 bikes. Mine is a 00, is this still gonna work? |

Ok, so I saw that I ordered the wrong bushings, called american sportbike and explained to them what had happened. I am not usually one to really praise a business for good customer service simply because I believe all businesses should have good customer service. However after the transaction with american sportbike I must say that they do have excellent service. I will definitely be buying more products from them in the future. |

+1 to al and jo anne, al will take the time to make sure you understand how to do the repair\or mod. He never makes me feel rushed out the door to get the next guy in line. Ive done similar on my enduro, I was in a parking garage and going up a circular ramp to the next level and accelerated a little more an wham front tire washed out. The ramp had a glossy paint type surface and i banged my knee pretty bad. At least you weren't going fast it could have been real bad |

Just ordered the bushing kit for my '00 X1 from the American Sport Bike folks. It's part#5546 ($34.95) It includes the bushing and back washer for both the shifter and brake pedal. |
