"BUT.... they spend money, take Riders Edge Classes... and that helps to keep me on the track!" +1, it is sad when my bike is the only one in the parking lot either because of the cold or rain. |

What is cool is that you can go into just about any HD store and ask for whatever part you want and they most times will have it for cheap(as long it isn't chrome) I never had any need for runnins with "The Company", just their front men at the independent stores. "we" are plagued with men with attitudes that don't know alot, and I, when given the chance to choose between going to a HD dealership to snoop around or going to McDonalds for a McChicken, the McChicken wins out everytime! The last time I was at a store was more than a month ago when the guy I was riding with had a medical emergency and had to use the restroom....now. So to answer the question, if anybody cares at this point, I'm glad they are there to help supply the independent stores with parts and bikes. |

I loved my Sporty. I love my Blast. I dug my Gold Wing, too, and I want a Lightning Long and lust for an XT. I have no problems with H-D. I like their products but I cannot afford their prices. Most dealers have been good to me, or at least benign. I ride what I can afford and do so in the cold and rain -- after all, I teach MSF courses in the cold and rain -- and I always pull over to help another rider. I've rode rice, but I think I've found kindred spirits at Buell. |

Love it. HD helped Buell get to where it is today. It's not perfect, but neither is the US or any of us. Most of us would have never had the chance to ride a Buell if it wasn't for HD! |

How can you hate a US company that hasn't asked for Federal aid? |

Love and hate are strong feelings. I would not apply either to such mediocrity as a motorcycle company. |

+1 Old_man Love and hate are both words that have been diminished due to over-usage in our society today. I like HD for a lot of reasons and for other reasons they annoy me. I will never own one again so I don't carry any negative HD baggage. JB2 |

I find a lot of these arguements about Wal-Mart crushing it's suppliers funny and skued. Like the example in the article, why doesn't Vlasic just refuse to sell to Wal-Mart, and protect it's brand image. Suppliers do not have to sell to Wal-Mart and "be forced" to out source it's production. This is purely a copout. Companies do business with Wal-Mart because they have large buying power. This is a mutually benificial arrangement for both parties. The companies themselves are the ones to blame for not negotiating better and out sourcing their production. |

I think they are fine. A US company that seems to have fun with its product and work. I think it would be fun to go to work there everyday, especially at BUELL. rEx |

I'm for the MOCO. They picked up my favorite brand of motorcycles and make them available to me. In doing so they made available what Buell needs to live, grow, and expand. I am happier that they have Buell than say a European or Japanese company. It could have happened, money is money, that which is what brings about the Walmart bashing in this thread. What if Walmart had made an offer to buy Buell at say 50% more than HD's offer. Look at the platform from which they could promote the brand. But they would control it and beat it into a cheap POS that we likely wouldn't want to own. I think it sad and funny that about the time Sam Walton died, Hillary Clinton was on the board of Walmart. It was that committee whom decided after his death, to go "international" for products, and go "credit cards". These were two fundamental standards that Walton stood against as much, and as long as possible. Walmart too has created many very wealthy people through its profit sharing and stock investment programs. |

The problem with Walmart is that if they represent 80% of your business as is often the case they can tell you what to do, including offshoring your manufacturing. They have done this to lots of folks. I bought a Buell new in 1998, I rode it for 5~6 years, put 31K miles on it. I had lots of problems with the bike and the dealership. I used to bitch about the dealership until a pal of mine put it in perspective for me. He said, they don't care if you bike is runnig or not, they don't care if you are a happy customer or not. Your business does not put food on their table, so they don't care. But this is my dealership, Bumpas HD of Memphis Tn. You have to give Props to the MotorCompany. No one has markteted a product like they have. Talk about brand recogniton, no one except maybe Coke has the recognition they do. |

The end product has seen some decent improvements in the last few years, Im not sure if they are enough to still justify the heavy price tag of a typical big twin. I cant stand the motor company anymore. They have have spent the last decade on a retarded hit and miss ride that most people who know about it cant believe its still going on. HD is full of some of the worst losers that call themselves "the management" in modern history. If the end product wasnt for recreation, travel, a motorcycle, they would be so far under where the sun dont shine there wouldnt be anything left to SCREW.......U WGD ! HD hasnt done much but get better at taking the peoples money. |
