Hello All, Just finished a nice Thanksgiving dinner....I look out the window and I see my 1125R lying face down in the parking lot. I parked it on about a 5 degree down angle on the kick stand side. No wind. Nobody around. I have a snapped-off left mirror, a bent clutch handle, and assorted scratches. What the heck? Gimme a break! Anybody ever had a bike just get up and fall over on its own? | ||

no. Was the bike pointing down hill? I'd have to bet that someone knocked it over or the stand wasn't all the way forward when you parked it. I make it a habit that when I put down the side stand, before I get off it I always tug back on the handle bars with stand on the ground to make sure it's fully in place. either way, sucks it happened. My guess, and only a guess from a similar thing happening to my XB, is that you didn't have the bike pulled back on the kickstand--meaning that it was teetering on the spring, and with the incline, it gave way. | ||

Almost, did the same thing at my sons house the other day. Wind hit it and I caught it rite before I walked away from it. If you end up riden it without the mirrors, its way different than with these wind anchors on. I waited 4 weeks for a left side and road with out em & Loved it. When I put em back on, only then did I realize how much wind they really do catch and how much you have to compensate for em steering in a corner at any kinda speed... Les | ||

Thanks guys, No the kickstand was still down when I picked it up. Looks to have pivoted on the stand. Was down hill, but maybe Fresnobuell is right. There was no wind. REALLY MAKES ME MAD! I had one blow over a couple of years back. But it was facing up hill, unlike this bike. I had left this one in an underground city garage due to the wind earlier in the week and had picked it up this morning. Learned my lesson. Makes me wonder why I go to the trouble now. Oh well, could have dropped it in traffic. I guess I should count my blessings. Every day riding in DC metro area is an adventure. | ||

Thanks Badlionsfan, There was no difference in elevation between the front and rear tire. When I say down hill, I meant that on the kick stand side, the parking lot was slightly lower than on the opposite side. That is, it would have taken quite a lot of pressure to push the bike over the kick stand to the ground, which is what happened. As this has never happened to me before, or anybody else that I know, somebody must have backed into it and pushed it over. Thanks for all the ideas. Guess I'm headed to the shop tomorrow. My bike has fallen over once. I was cleaning it and moved it forward to finish the rims. I thought it was all the way forward on the kickstand. I had sat down and started cleaning the rear rim when it started to move forward. It got over before I could stop it but I did slow down the fall. The kickstand did stay down. I have had the upgrade on the spring done on the kickstand after the fall. And now I always pull back on the bike to make sure it is all the way. | ||

Leave it in 1st gear. Push forward till it won't roll and make sure the stand's down and it shouln't fall(unless it gets help), Parked my bike like this for years and no problems. I feel for you, that really sucks when it happens like that. | ||

Yep, Palerider is 110% correct, been there done that caught it just as it was starting to rooolll forward. My heart was just starting to burst when I caught her! Time2Sleep | ||

I was pivoting Loretta on the side-stand in my dad's garage to turn around and it folded. I barely had time to throw myself under the bike before she hit. Scuffed the pod and curled the clutch lever. Z | ||

easy to sound sanctimonious but I always try to remember to park the bike in first gear. The engine start control circuit will not allow the bike to be started in gear with the clutch released on UK spec bikes. Sorry to hear your pride and joy has got damaged however | ||

I went to a private winery for a friends wedding rehearsal 2 weeks after having my 1125r. when I came back 15 minutes later (and that is being genrous)........it was on it's side. Some people are just douche bags........and I HATE to say it.....but their skin is worth more as a wallet than their life as a civilian of society is in general. | ||

Black is back! Just finished ferrying the machine to a dealer. I think I have solved the mystery too. As I was examining the machine before riding it to my local Honda dealer so I could use his ramp, I saw just a smidge of oxidized white paint on the front fairing. Since the Shiny Beast is black, it would appear that a white automobile must have helped it fall, otherwise, where did that paint come from? Well, it appears that the damage might, (might) be fairly minor. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I should hear from them in the middle of the week. I needed to get that last reflash done anyway. The dealer told me that I was the sixth guy to bring in a dropped 1125. He told me that their demo bike was dropped by a rider, who got embarrassed and picked it up so hard that he threw it over onto the other side. That's right...two drops. Funktron and Carbonbigfoot know exactly how I was feeling yesterday. Oh well, what is done is done. Thanks for the support! | ||

I had the same thing happen to me with my M2. Stopped to pick up my mail and when I turned to go to the mail box I heard a crunch. Downhill and it just pivitoted out from under the bike. Sounds like the same damage too. | ||

Velocity, They told me that she would be ready early January. See you then. Thanks Thunderbox. I found my problem, seems some oxidized white paint was on the fairing. Somebody in a white car helped her fall. The kick stand was also bent forward from the impact. | ||

I had my T-3 Guzzi run over by a Caddy in 77'. The driver left the scene w/o any note. I caught him since he also left his license tag torn off in my Windjammer! Speaking of an open and shut case. The LEO was quite impressed when I told him I knew who did it! | ||

Ask your dealer to do a "Vehicle info" check on H-Dnet. Plug in the VIN and it tells all. For verification, plug a Digital Tech II into the bike and see what rev s/w it has. The early 08s had ONE safety campaign(5th gear oil jet) and 3 product campaigns. H-Dnet will show the status, complete or open. Early CRs had a different safety campaign related to the cam chain guides. Check the archives. I took delivery of my "R" a year ago last week. Not just "No regrets" I am in love with this bike. Wow! Just got the Shiny Beast back from the dealer (Winchester HD/Buell). I have to say that it was a real treat. Ever been to a Harley shop where the head of the service department was wearing a "Buell Racing" t-shirt? That ranks up there with being struck by lightning on a clear day in your front yard! Do you believe this? He races Buells for the dealership. Crazy right? Funny, but they also sell a lot of Buells...and Harleys. Funny too that the lead Buell mechanic is also very popular with the Harley customers. Who would have thunk that having highly trained personnel could affect the Harley side too! A truly different business model for HD. About time right? |
