Several S1 Blasts have been raced - they are quite light in weight and have done ok in single-modified classes - of course a XB Blast is the way to go now. The Book is great! - I'm hoping there will be a second book as well! EZ |

Ah...but I know of a bare S1 frame/swingarm/front end, languishing in a corner, un-loved.....this could be the excuse I've been looking for to buy it. |

looks a little bulky, but very effective I was more interested in the way it attached. It looks like there are three bolts holding on vice the regular hose clamps. Frank |

Frank, That pre-production S1 heat shield, which never made it into production, was a fiberglass cover which attached with 3 screws into nuts that were welded on a normal (thin steel) heat shield. The thin steel heat shield was attached to the header with the normal hose clamps. 1313 |

1313, thanks for the info. I never have liked the stock heat shields as they are a pain at times. I think the one I have on my S2T is from a S3. It is bigger and works great. If the exhaust gets too warm, like when I am running over 4K rpm for an extended time, I just upshift and it cools down rather quickly. |

Hey, ai just got my new issue of Rider magazine and our book is listed in the NEW and Hot section at the back. Cool! Almost as exciting as when the RW 750 began to appear in the magazines! |

Didn't mean to bump an old thread and then hijack it but I didn't want to start a new one. What is the name of the book of the crazy ride through... not sure where? You know the one that makes you not want to do the ride? I searched but couldn't find it. Thanks and great 25 year book! |

"Two Wheels Through Terror" by Glen Heggstad I bought it on Courts recommendation - it actually makes you want to do the ride through South America but then you realize you are not Glen Heggstad and you probably would not survive it! |

This book will scare the hell out of you. When the idea of writing a book began gaining traction there were 3 publishers I was talking to. White Horse Press emerged as true professionals and genuine enthusiasts. While we were in the "getting to know one another" phase, they offered to send Dave and I a couple books to give us a flavor for their work. I asked that they also send the same 3 to Erik. I'm thinking we'll just skim through, look at pics and get a feel for them. I'm like that, but Erik's a "dive in" guy . . . picked up the Two Wheels Through Terror and couldn't put it down. . . . my wife did the same thing. A couple days later I was talking to Erik and you could hear the fear in his voice . . . . this book, if you want to experience the outer extreme of adventure motorcycling . . is the gold standard. Me? . . . well my idea of "adventure" is riding to a burger joint a couple states away and risking indigestion. . . my wife, a former Baja fanatic and some folks take it one step further. God bless them . . . if you need Dave and I. . .we'll be in the bar. I've got a couple weeks off over the holidays and may have to dive into this book . . . this has emerged as a motorcycle MUST READ.

Truth be known . . . I rock and Dave tolerates it. As you can see from the photo in the back of the book . . . I'm about 32 years younger than Dave. On the other hand . . . . there have been about 94 times over the last 20+ years that I've been totally focused on doing something totally stupid and doing it with lots of vigor. . . . Dave, as old and dull as he is, is one smart cookie and has been personally responsible for a good measure of Buell's success. If you cross paths with us . . . .you'll sure want to have your picture taken with me but I'd suggest you corner Dave and talk to him about the motorcycle business and if you REALLY want to see him light up mention Isle of Mann racing. Man . . . if I had his brains!

Two Wheels Through Terror was a GREAT read!!! I ordered it when I ordered the 25 Years of Buell. Gave me something to read while waiting for 25 Years. I have let several of folks that like to read borrow it and they said the same about the book. Great read. David Wells' book "Perfect I'm Not", both of the Lance Armstrong's books and the Tedy Bruschi book are also good reads. As you can tell I don't read any Fiction. |

TT racing at the Isle of Mann. Wow! I try to catch it each year on the tv. It makes me so nervous and energized at the same time. There's a guy that sells salt water taffy when the fair comes to town. He has some sidecar pics of him from the Isle of Mann. I go every year just to talk to him for 1/2 hour and hear another story. I met him about 5 years ago. Good stuff and certainly worth the admission. I roadraced a few years ago and my biggest accomplishment was riding Daytona. I can only imagine the Isle of Mann. I WILL make it to the Isle to watch it live and would love to race the slowest two wheeler I can find. I can't wait to read the new book after Dad reads it. After all it was his gift... |
