Stop that! Now I'm gonna want one of those old things. Hmm, wonder if any are still in the crate? I'll even give'em full price $6995. |

Total Lust Object . . . man can I tell you some stories about the evolution of that bike! I bought my XLCR and XR-1000 the same day and sold them the same day. Thanks for the webgasm! |

They started, you know, at #3,995.00 and had two prices increases before they hit the market. . . |

That XR-1000 was the original "you'll kill yourself dead on a bike like that" bike. Tasty |

When I first looked at Harleys it was the 883's that were $3995 with the full trade in deal. Both of your former bikes are classics now and always on the fringe for the regular HD type as you well know. So the XR1200 may end up another short term thing but hopefully they keep improving it and think to make more sporting machines across the line. |

Talk of XR1000's had me looking at my Sportster performance book last night, particularly at the sidebars on the XR1000 and XLCR... Some cool photo's there taken by none other than Dave Gess. I've only ever ridden a Sporty once and found it quite weird, strange seating position, no brakes, the harder you ride it the more it vibrates, no power compared to the X1... It was a customer loan bike when I had the X1 serviced once, a pretty standard 1200, about a 2004 model I think. So what is an XR1000 like to ride? And an XLCR? (How about an 1125CR race series!?!?!? That would be cool.) |

Mark/Bandm, i'm impressed with your bike, but possibly even more impressed with your post-building skills. FB ps: i've got in my collection a pristine original XR-1000 brochure like the one you pictured: it ain't near as cool as the real deal, but it's as close as i'll ever come... |

Yep, I'd be happy for you to go into detail (You can add the RR1000 and RR1200 to that list too ) I've always been a fan of both. Although I've never seen an XLCR, I lusted after them as much as a 900SS when I was a kid, before I knew the difference between pushrods and bevel drives. The XLCR always seemed like a bike that could have evolved into something great, a whole new line for H-D. I've seen two XR-1000's over the years, one was at a recent Hot-Rod show and that seemed a very appropriate setting . Two wheels, an engine, not much more! Considering the history of the XLCR, the XR-1000, and even the VR, you can see why H-D could have been hesitant about introducing the XR-1200... But I think I'll take one for a test ride if I get a chance |
