IMHO, if you are going to buy another replacement CARBURETOR for an up-date a 45MM(HSR45) is the answer ... |

"not much increase to be had via carb swap" No, but the dyno doesn't reveal the snappier and more precise throttle response. It was very apparent on the 42mm Mikuni equipped Buells I've ridden. |

Where can I get a 42mm Mikuni in Ca. Is it in anyway a common model, potentially to be found at a swap meet or junk yard or is it model specific? |

Where can I get a 42mm Mikuni in Ca. I thought about getting one of these a while back, I called Al Lighton and he was real knowledgeable about the Mikuni. I ultimately decided I didn't need it but if I build my top end I'd get it new from Al, especially if I lived in CA. I'd take my chances on a used CV or other carb I know but not on a Mikuni, mainly because I've never used or worked on one. Also if you buy it new you probably get all the stuff you need to mount it. |

Might as well just burn the money. Putting just a carb on isn't going to do what you think it will. Unless sucking down more gas is all you want to do. |

For my dollar, the Mikuni HSR42 was one of the best investments I made. Yeah, I know the whole HP/dyno charts thing, but dammit; it just runs so much more responsively and the tuning capabilities on the Big M are unlimited compared to the CV40. Go for it. You'll be glad you did. |
